    Anyone who loves music...

should have this event on his or her bucket list -- the DCI World Championships in Indianapolis. Me and my wife have been to three -- 1998 in Orlando, FL; 2000 in College Park, MD; and 2002 in Madison, WI. An awesome spectacle to take in; TV does not even come close to the live experience. Me and my family are taking Amtrak to Indy to see the event once again from Aug. 11 - 14. We're leaving Aug. 10 early morning and arriving later that evening -- a long day for sure, but I'm looking forward to it.

I see that Minnesota is hosting a big show (23 corps?) at TCF Bank Stadium. Missouri had one at Faurot Field a few years back. Looks like the only show in central Iowa this year is at WDM Valley. I've always thought it would be cool to have a big weekend show at Jack Trice.

    Re: Anyone who loves music...

The first DCI show I ever watched was Finals in 2002. I returned to Madison for finals in 2005, and I went to Indy for the 2009 event. Always worth it.

It would be way cool to have a DCI show at JTS. I'm sure we'd go every year if Ames hosted a DCI event. Perhaps the Dubuque Colts could be the host corps?

    Re: Anyone who loves music...

BTW for the uninitiated, DCI stands for Drum Corps International; an organization that governs drum corps competitions nation wide and in Canada with the world championships being now held in Indy every year. The DCI championship host site used to rotate around to different cities. A drum corps is short for drum and bugle corps -- similar to a marching band, but they face only one direction (to the press box), march in far more complex formations, and have some really intricate choreography with the rifle and flag sections of each corps. The sound generated by these corps blows away any marching band I've ever heard. It's a sound and visuals unique in all of performance art.

    Re: Anyone who loves music...

Definitely need to see DCI shows live to get the full affect.

I remember watching the Madison Scouts hornline warm up for a show in Blaine, Minnesota in the early '90's. Awe inspiring is the only statement that comes to mind. You can feel the wall of sound hitting your chest.

That experience and listening to the Florida State marching band playing the tomahawk chop song at the 1990 Fiesta Bowl led to me choosing Iowa State and the ISUCF"V"MB.

Thank you. I had no idea what DCI was.
