because july 4th is on a sunday which is the weekend, so in order to give their employees the holiday off they give them monday.

You are Un-American if you keep your office open on this day. My office will be closed.

Re: why are most job places shut down on July 5th

I wish we had the option this year to treat it as a floating holiday. I'd like to take the time off elsewhere, and I really probably could use the time in the office to get some work done.

Re: why are most job places shut down on July 5th

The 4th is on Sunday. Most places give people the day off the Friday before (if the 4th is on a Saturday) or the Monday after (if the 4th is on Sunday)

Yep, no Labor Day either but they do close down the entire time between Christmas and New Years.

I know of a couple of companies that are asking their employees to work, but giving them an extra day of PTO to use down the road.
