Morphing cars and planes - that sounds a lot more like A****ots and Decepticons than it does T-1000s...

I just folded some aluminum foil into the shape of a toy boat and paper airplane and I bet it cost a lot less than that thing.

It would be really cool if they could come up with a way to stop millions of gallons of oil from escaping into our ecosystem. But robotic transforming origami robots are nice.........at least that was what Gene Simmons thought.......

We did a DARPA project for our AerE 462 Senior Project. Submersible aircraft. Ours was pretty fail-ridden, but it was a sweet project to work on.

THIS is where our taxes go? So people can pretend they're in Transformers? And they really can't figure out how to get out of our 13 trillion dollar deficit.

update: holy crap I just watched the video... they call that a robot? What a joke.

While I agree with most of what you are saying, its small advances like this that end up being the cornerstone for advances in other areas. Having each one of those segments work together to move or form something could maybe someday help a paraplegic walk. There is no doubt the military will be all over this stuff to do wrong with it, but sometimes other sectors benefit as well.

A good chunk of the technologies that you take for granted each day came from military/space programs just like this.
