Remember when the Indy 500 was a HUGE deal?

This article makes some great points.

FOX Sports on MSN - Motor - Major race needs some major changes

I used to LOVE to watch Indy and never missed a second of it when I was a kid. Then the IRL (the NASCAR of open wheel racing) came into being and runined the thing. Many of the things that have happened to open wheel racing over the years and to the Indy 500 are being repeated by NASCAR today.

Don't want to start another NASCAR civil war, but I thought it was a good read for those who enjoy motorsports.

I still enjoy the indy 500. Maybe just because it is the biggest thing in racing and it is a big deal if you win it.
