From the "Gee, You Don't Say" department comes word that the Western Athletic Conference has shelved any thoughts of expansion they may have entertained for the near future.

After Boise State accepted an invitation to the Mountain West earlier this month -- they'll join the league beginning in 2011 -- it was thought the WAC might possibly look to replace the Broncos and get back to a nine-team conference. Then again, when your only real option is Div. 1-AA Montana (no offense, Grizzlies), do you really have any other choice but to sit on your hands for the moment?

Anyway, in a press release sent out earlier this evening, commissioner Karl Benson said that expansion will not happen in the here and now and the earliest his league will look at adding schools would be July 1, 2012.
