I liked it, too. Thanks for posting. I'm a little surprised that the Big 10 spends so much more money on football than the Big 12.

Big 10 has the better TV contract

Texas doesnt have to spend a ton a recruiting that makes a big difference

Big 10 schools need to spend more to compete. Spending money on student-athletes is the SEC's modus operandi.

Looks like ISU is not near its potential. Hopefully CPR can change this.

I was shocked to see how much Iowa spends on their football program. The fact that they ever lose to us should be an embarrassment, considering the massive investment in their team. They spend more than Florida and Alabama.

No reason to complain about us being the most financially irresponsilbe because in the past 5 years it was true. I don't think anyone on this board would argue that hiring Chizik was money well spent.

We can only hope that if this same report comes out after having Coach PR at the helm for 5 years then we would be the best bang for the buck.

These figures include things like debt payments that come from stadium renovations. Iowa is in the middle of paying off their last renovation.

Thanks for clarifying this. If this is infact the case this article basically means squat. If a team had just finished paying for stadium/facility renovation prior to this research then they will likely look more frugal than someone who is paying off the debt caused by upgrades when in all actuallity this is not the case.

It's basically the same thing when looking at annual revenues. All it takes is one big donation from a booster to vault you up the lists.

Not that these lists are completely meaningless it's just that it must be clarified what is being counted.

In addition, you need to look at the starting point. ISU may be in the middle of the pack in spending during the study's period, but the neglect to the facilities during the previous 20-30 years means that ISU is spending money to just get where most of the schools were before they spent a dime during the study period...

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr

    Re: Interesting article on spending

From the article: While having college football's deepest pockets couldn't buy Ohio State a perfect record, the Buckeyes still posted an impressive 83.6 winning percentage (excluding games against the military academies and Football Championship Subdivision schools) in the past five seasons. That was substantially better than two other schools that clearly didn't take advantage of their financial advantages.

But but but, a win is a win and ISU should pad their schedule with patsy teams in order for them to be successful.

I quote this all the time and no one has a clue what I'm talking about. I'm only 32 but used to watch those re-runs on Nick at Night.
