Claim your portion of $75 million Trans Union settlement???

I'm always skeptical of these, but I have yet to come across anything that tells me what this lawyer is claiming is wrong. Anyone else come across this or signed up.

Trans Union is a credit reporting agency that violated your credit privacy rights. The Court has ordered that Trans Union pay $75,000,000.00 to those affected and their attorneys. You can make a claim to receive a portion of the $75,000,000.00 settlement fund.

You have a claim if you had any credit between 1987-2000 (including but not limited to: credit card, gas card, department store card, bank loan, home loan, car loan, student loan, etc.). You must also be 28 years of age or older today to make a claim.

Re: Claim your portion of $75 million Trans Union settlement???

The contract says that, if you receive a recovery, you owe the lawyer 45-50% of the gross recovery, plus...

my share of Case Costs common to my case ("Common Case Costs"); and, further, that Counsel shall determine how their clients, including me, shall reasonably share such Common Case Costs
So, let's say you are awarded $1000. You are likely looking at....

    $1000 : gross recovery
    minus $500 : 50% of gross recovery
minus $250 : total guess (25%), but reasonable amount of "Common Case Costs", decided by the lawyer
    ---------------------
$250 : in your pocket (25% of your recovery)

If you are interested in dealing with that for the potential 25% of whatever you might actually be awarded, have fun.

The only ones getting paid here are, as usual, the people known as "... and their attorneys".

Ask Andy: TransUnion settlement e-mail - WMC-TV: News, Weather, Traffic, Radar, and Sports for Memphis, TN; WMCTV.com |

    Phishing

The class action suit is real. Plaintiffs did indeed sue TransUnion a few years ago for privacy violations. In settling the case, the bureau agreed to contact qualifying consumers and ask them to*register in order to collect either the cash benefit or the free trial offer of the monitoring service.*According to Steve Katz, TransUnion's corporate communications director,*the settlement administrator's*web site*is still active:**www.listclassaction.com.

But the registration deadline was September 2008.* It's over.* No more applicants.

I did read that if and when people get paid from the settlement, the attorneys take 45%.

This is where that old joke is so appropriate:

"What do you call 10,000 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean? A good start..."
