Re: Register: ISU supports current Big 12 through 2020

But we still don't hear what happens if someone wants to leave before the 10 commitment is up. I don't understand how it will work if it doesn't have teeth. The only possible way is for a huge buyout or penalty to keep everyone in place.

Also, since this is a "commitment to the Big12", what happens if 6 teams decide to leave, can they dissolve the conference? There are still a lot of questions that this does not answer.

Re: Register: ISU supports current Big 12 through 2020

I'd like to see the out clauses in this. What if 5 or decide to quit? I am sure that no restitution will be paid out to those remaining school. The way ISU and the rest of the forgottens have sold themselves to be part of the Texas league I am sure there is nothing good in this for ISU.

I saw on Channel 13 tonight that the 10 teams voted to keep the league as is until 2020. Horrible....

What if they want to add a team or two?

In essence, ISU has until 2020 to make themselves more attractive. Having winning football and basketball teams would go a long way in helping. Build up the fan support as well.

According to Channel 13 tonight they said they would keep the league AS IS until 2020. I hope there are some outs to be able to add some teams otherwise this is just horrible. I am sure it leaves easy outs for the likes of Texas since it is their league.

Re: Register: ISU supports current Big 12 through 2020

I'm sure there is something in there that states they can expand if need be. If they see other conferences starting to expand to 14 or 16, I can see the Big 12 doing the same thing and not getting left behind. But, until that happens, it looks like we are staying at 10.

This shouldn't surprise anyone. We have virtually no cards and bribed UT/OU/A&M in order to keep the conference together. This is the only reason why we are in the B12 at this point.

If those 3 schools and a couple of their tag alongs decide it's in their best interest to go to another conference, we're right back to where we were this year. That could easily be 2020 or even before.

Not saying one way or the other... but "As is" is not very specific and it could mean of lot of things.... I don't see much news here.

I don't see what is wrong with keeping the conference "as is" right now. Give me a good TV contract for a while and improve our sports and we could be sitting pretty by the time 2020 rolls around.

The only way to make ISU more attractive by 2020 is to increase the state of Iowa population of tv viewers. So, we won't be any more attractive in 2020 than we are now.

Me either...I love it at 10 teams and think 10 teams is the perfect conference setup.

People all of a sudden have a misconception that bigger is better and you need to have 14 or 16 teams to be viable.

    Poppycock I say.

Its been reported that if the above cases play out then whoever has the TV rights can sue the schools leaving for breach of contract.

Re: Register: ISU supports current Big 12 through 2020

I like that we will have the ten, and it will still be a strong conference (better on some levels)....but I am wondering if we will add two ever before the 2020 date? 12 could be the norm by that date....and we will need to grab two right?
