    Iowa State TV Network?

Missouri is on the move to develop their own television network, according to the KC Star.

The same report calls for readers to "expect the same from nearly every current member of the Big 12 to do exactly that."

I haven't heard any rumblings at Iowa State yet about this but IMO, they might as well. It won't create revenue like the one in Texas but you're telling me that some big time ISU supporters won't step up to the plate to help fund this thing for advertising purposes?

It could work. Now that I'm done with that quick thought, I'll let the people in the Jacobsen Building who have forgotten more about this stuff than I will ever know get to work.

Missouri TV network could arrive sooner than later - KansasCity.com

Missouri arguably has the best journalism department in America. They will utilize the hell out of that in this endeavor.

Iowa State's, while solid, isn't close to that but the university could use this as a big push for that department. Why not use your best students, hire some fantastic faculty and get this thing off the ground?

Im with some other posters on here, Baylor, ISU, KSU, KU and Mizzou should have one together, that would make more sense.

Someone brought this up awhile back, but why don't ISU, MU, KU, and KSU all join forces and start a TV network between the 4 of them?

    Re: Iowa State TV Network?

This seems a little silly to me. It allows the big markets to create a network and profit off of it, but it would be soooooo much cheaper for the conference to create a network (BTN model) and share resources.

Why don't they want to do that? Because that would require some level of revenue sharing.

We lost our chance at this when WOI was stolen from us. Doubt it every happens without some big time assistance.

Agreed, but at that point why not just a conference wide network? Because Texas (and the other "haves") doesn't want to throw us a loaf of bread for the betterment of the league--that's why.

Exactly, so take what resources you have, and run with it.

I have a hard time believing Texas would be cool with that.

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer but I don't see it working. We can BARELY generate enough ad revenue to keep the Cyclones on radio in Cedar Rapids. How do we expect a Cyclone TV network to go over?

I bet the set up and on going costs are a pretty big number. I am not sure ISU could pick up enough TV sets to make it profitable. And advertisers care deeply about the number of eyeballs watching. Good luck though

I know a couple people that would gladly help out with that.

Realistically though, Iowa State already has a solid start with the Clone Zone. It's pretty remarkable the amount of content they create with a small staff. If they could somehow integrate Clone Zone with the Campus TV station (which IMO is way underutilized) you could hopefully get something off the ground. I have a feeling a few people in particular at the Jake are taking a long look at the possibilities with this.

Agreed and kind of my point. From a cost standpoint everyone would be so much better off to share the resources to put on a production of this nature. Of course, that means that Texas would only have indirect control of the money by telling Dan Beebe what to do with it, instead of just using it on their own.

At this point, I think Texas might as well be independent but they've probably seen Notre Dame struggle enough that they figure they have an easier route to BCS by staying in a conference and bullying everybody else around. Best of both worlds for them.
