Austin road trip places to eat

Hey all - thought I would send out a link to some of the best burger joints in Austin - by way of 104.9's burger bracket.

If you're making the trip this fall check 'em out - Mighty Fine is new from the last time y'all came down - and the best in my opinion, but Austin is a burger town with LOTS of choices.

    Bonedaddy's

The food is mediocre, but the waitstaff makes Hooters look like Chuck E Cheese.

You can spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect floral bouquet for your date ... but you're probably better off checking if you have bad breath and taking the porn out of the glove compartment.

Make the drive to Lockhart, it's worth the time. Black's, Kreuz's, and Smitty's.

I know where I'm eating down there.

I'll be busting my butt to find the best bloody mary in Austin that day.

Rudy's. Beautiful Quanset Hut. You walk in and there are troughs full of beer. So you grab a cold beer, and look at the menu. It says "Brisket, beef, chicken". You order, and grab a picnic table. They come out with some plastic paper to cover the table, then throw down cole slaw and beans, plus whatever you ordered. It is awesome.

Texas must be the Burger Capital of North America.

I have never seen so many Fast Food Burger Joints:

    Whataburger
    Jack in the Box
plus the ones in the Midwest (McDon, BK, Wendy's)

Especially the BYOB one in Driftwood, TX - agreed.

And whoever mentioned Lockhart obviously knows their BBQ.

Austin has a ton of great places - independents are still big - or even local chains.

Don't miss Kerbey Lane for breakfast, either!

Re: Austin road trip places to eat

The Oasis is a nice place to spend an evening - it's a big multi-tiered deck that overlooks Lake Travis from the east. The tradition is to spend the evening on the deck and watch the sun set over the Texas hills. When the sun falls below the horizon, people come up and ring a big bell. Nice setting, good good, and when the weather is right it's a great place to hang out.
