    A/C issues

Central Air unit on my house is not kicking out cold air. Cooler than room temp air, but not cold air and the unit continues to run because its not getting down to the temp I have it set at. Anyone have a quick fix or know someone good that will come on a Sunday?

I'm hoping a quick "restart" of it cools things down. Heck it works with the computer.

    Re: A/C issues

If you havent had any problems in the past... it could just need cleaned out.
Spray water with your garden hose into the front of it to clean it out.
    Works wonders.

    Re: A/C issues

Change your filter. Make sure the outside unit is clean (cottonwood seeds, etc.), spray it off with a hose if necessary. <- first steps in any AC problem troubleshooting.

Next, switch heat/cool to off and fan to on. Let run a few hours and turn back on to cool. Did this seem to help things? Is there a lot of water coming out of the drain? If so, (and you've changed the filter, cleaned outside, etc.) you're probably low on refrigerant. You also might be able to tell from a frosted over line near your unit outside.

You can probably find any number of places that will make emergency calls (including Sunday). They just cost more money.

    Re: A/C issues

Do those other steps first, but ours ended up being low on freon and leaking from the interior unit. I've had it freeze over before too though, so letting any possible ice clear is first free thing to try.

Sounds like Coil is plugged.....(could also be frozen) needs to be able to let air pass thru

Like others have said take enclosure off and spray clean, if this does not work you could be low on freon.....

    Good Luck

Make sure you don't use a lot of water pressure spraying thu the vanes of the coil...you don't want to bend any of the vanes down or you just defeated your efforts of cleaning out with water....You just further reduced air flow thu the vanes of the coil.......I always spray all the vanes of the coil with water with no nozzle, go back and spay the vanes with some cleaner like 409, Fantastick, etc......let it set for a while and then go back and spray with water, no nozzle remember you don't want to bend any of the vanes down....If you do, they have a cheap little vane straightener tool, which will work on this coil, car radiators , window air cond coils

Your finger over the end of the hose end is just enough pressurefor cleaning

    Re: A/C issues

Check the main unit outside to make sure the compressor is kicking on. The fan on top of the unit might be on, which makes it look like the outside unit is working, but there is a compressor inside of it that runs to pressurize the freon. Its the same thing as a compressor in a refrigerator, only bigger and louder, but it will sound generally the same.

And to all of you spraying off your a/c unit....i haven't seen anyone suggest cutting off the power to the unit first.....remember - the A/C is 220, and i've been tagged by my A/C before......
