Must be nice getting healthy beating up on the Cubs, Pirates, and Nationals...

    Re: AL Central

Twins played like **** in Milwuakee after a huge series in Philly. No excuses for that.

Still no panic though. The White Sox and Tigers made up most of the ground while playing the cellar of the NL in Pittsburgh, Diamondbacks, Nationals, and Cubs while the Twins were facing Hammels, Halladay, Jiminez, Hudson, Lowe, Gallardo twice, and will face Pelfrey and Santana this weekend.

Hope you guys don't win the Central CrossCyed. Twins are the Yankees' *****.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that they'll have to win the division to get into the playoffs. Winner of the Central and West might have the 4th place East record.

    Re: AL Central

The Sox did just sweep the team with the best record in the NL.

You gotta beat the bad teams too.

It wasn't bad sweeping the team who had the best record in the NL and hadn't lost a series since May 7-9, either.

Have to feel for Gavin Floyd, though. He's got a 0.93 ERA in his last four starts and his record over that span is 0-1.

And would they have done that without the confidence that comes from taking 8 of 9 from three of the worst teams in the NL? Probably not...

Probably not, but that doesn't mean that the division isn't a race again. Sox get Cubs and Royals the next two series as well.

What kind of argument is that? Why didn't the Twins have enough confidence after being down 9-4 in the 9th inning to the two time NL champions and scoring 9 runs in the last 3 innings to win to not lay an egg in Milwaukee?

The 2010 Chicago White Sox have been the epitome of the old adage that a team is never as good as they look when they're winning and never as bad as they look when they're losing. Luckily, no team in the Central appears to be good enough to just run away from everyone else.

Cliff Lee to Minnesota would worry me, though.

Precisely why baseball needs a salary cap. Twins could do the same thing if their "role players" were stars from other teams.

Isn't the Twins payroll up over 90 million this year?

    Edit: Yup, 97 million.

    As of opening day:
    Min: $97 million
    Det: $133 million
    Chw: $103 million
    Cle: $61 million
    KC: $74 million

By giving home grown players raises and signing Orlando Hudson and JJ Hardy. Hardly going out and signing all-stars for bench roles.

Also, 11% of the payroll will never step foot on the field this year in Joe Nathan. So it's more like $85 million since his contract was insured. Which is also why many experts say the Twins have the flexibility to go after guys like Lee.
