    Running music?

To all CF joggers/runners out there, assuming you listen to music when you run, what music do you listen to? Any particular songs, artists, albums, etc?

I am training for a marathon, and am looking for something to pass the time.

    Re: Running music?

I usually listen to something up tempo. Some may say it will help you psychologically run faster. I usually just like up tempo music in general such as linkin park and the offspring.

I would check out some of the iTunes mixes. Nike has a few that were pretty sweet. I had a mix that was The Hives (who I dont like), but the beats and the tempo of the music helped me keep my pace and helped the run go by a lot faster. I personally need a nice steady beat when I run so I know I'm staying pace. Techno and such is good for this. Might want to check out the new Chemical Brothers CD.

EDIT: There is also a free podcast that you can download that has TONS of running songs. They group them by distances and times I believe. So you can start off shorter for your shorter training days and work your way up.

Just found it I think. Podrunner

    Re: Running music?

Actually for marathon running, I tend to listen to slower stuff. Especially things like floyd. I cannot stand up tempo songs for a 4 hr run (I am slow). After the first 2 hrs it is just too much.

    Re: Running music?

I'm more of a cycling type, but my favorite song to ride to is Glock Nines. I don't know why but I prefer rap for riding - maybe its the beat tracks that make it easy to get a good rhythm going.

    Re: Running music?

I'm thinking about getting more into interval training after my marathon experience, so music that will work for that too, is much appreciated.

I was doing a little bit of interval training last year, and was listening to a bunch faster tempo, but with a nice beat (i.e. Rage).

I like Jay Z, AC/DC, and Crystal Method. Admittedly needs some updating. Rage against the Machine too. I run angry.

Depends on the type of workout, and I'm glad I'm not the only person who has lost their mind and is working on marathon training.

I've got an "easy listening" playlist on my iPod for my distance runs. If I'm doing a track workout or intervals, I'll listen to harder stuff (Korn, Trapt, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, etc.)

    Re: Running music?

When I'm out running I only listen to the music of Billy Ocean. That's it, nothing else. You should do the same, although our running styles may be different. I'm not a jogger, I only sprint. What sprint for as long as a I can while listen to Caribbean Queen or some other stellar jam by Mr. Ocean, then take a break wherever I end up. When I've got my strength back, I start sprinting again. Truthfully, no other kind of music can keep me pumped up during my training like Billy's music can. One other benefit is that if you happen to bump into some strange while out training, you've already got your baby making music all queued up.

Either rap or hardcore. Something hard to get me pumped up!
