    World Cup every year?

Its been pretty fun... why not play the World Cup every year??? We've learned from all of the Conference realignment talk that tradition means nothing and sports are all about money...

chew on that lil' titbit of an idea... give it a quick think-over... and post feedback please.

    Re: World Cup every year?

Every 4 years (next one is 2012) they play the Euro cup. To the Europeans, that is just a big of deal as the world cup. I was in Germany in 2008 and it was amazing how much they follow that.

They also have other tournaments/qualifying rounds in the off years.

    Re: World Cup every year?

Having the World Cup every 4 years also builds the excitement for the event. I love the World Cup, and would love more of it. But the emotion shown on the field today, and by the fans watching at home, is much greater because we all understand that you don't get another chance until another 4 years go by. Same thing applies for the Olympics.

    Re: World Cup every year?

Considering the qualifying process takes almost 2 years, plus the Olympics happens halfway between each World Cup, not a great idea.

Would the Olympics be as big of a deal if they played it every year?

    Re: World Cup every year?

It takes billions of dollars to host a WC. It's the type of thing that they have to announce 10-12 years in advance just so countries and cities can prepare for it, just like the Olympics.

Actually 2018 and 2022 will be announced later this year (December), but your point stands. It's also why I think USA picks up one of the two bids (money's on 2022) because the truth is with our abundance of 65,000+ seat football stadiums we'd be the most prepared to host a World Cup tomorrow morning if need be. Odds are it's a European bid (England, Russia, Netherlands/Belgium or Spain/Portugal) for one and United States for the other. South America can't host because Brazil's hosting 2014, and Asia's only two legitimate bidders are South Korea and Japan, both of whom just finished co-hosting a few years ago.

    Re: World Cup every year?

The aspect that it is only held once in 4 years make it fun and historical. Not everyone had the privilege (or lucky enough) to play, regardless how good they were.

USA could host, but some stadiums would have to get grass. Jerry Jones would do it to show case his stadium to the world.

That little detail didn't stop the Silverdome from hosting back in 1994.

According to the 2018/2022 article on Wikipedia, the 16 host cities would be Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle, Tampa, and Washington.

it takes a while to go through the qualifying rounds. They couldn't do it every year.
