    Kevin Durant to Seattle!

I think the best thing about tonights Lottery picks was finding out who got number two!

Odem will be a good NBA player, but I think Durant will be the future of the NBA!

    Go Sonics!

    Re: Kevin Durant to Seattle!

So much for any conspiracy theories. The best thing about tonights lottery was that the Boston Celtics did not get the top two picks. I have followed the NBA for nearly 40 years. I hate the Celtics. Most of it stems from Red Aurabach(sp?) who was a pompous GM who disrespected most of the league. Today's NBA(and other pro sports) is much more detailed in their drafting, scouting and overall trade evaluating. No team will ever run off as many titles in any sport as the Celtics did back then.

    Re: Kevin Durant to Seattle!

Yeah, the Celtics haven't paid their dues the past 20 years with 2 star players dying (one probably crippling the team for 10 years -Len Bias) and the other an All-Star (Reggie). Missed out on Tim Duncan when they had the best chance etc...

Had the 2nd worst record in the league and deserved a top 3 pick this year. Instead they get the 5th pick. Wow did the NBA ever lose with those 2 teams getting the top 2 picks. What a YAWN. Pacific NW getting both picks did nothing to help the NBA, and should squash any conspiracy theories!

    Re: Kevin Durant to Seattle!

Terrible outcome for both of these kids...they will make significantly less in endorsement deals because they will be playing out on the left coast when everyone else is sleeping. Unless you are in LA...the left coast kills your ability to really earn some quality money on endorsements!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I think that is great the Sonics are getting the second pick there is more and more talk that the sonics will be moving to KC to play in the new sprint center. I would love to see Durant on the home town team.

Not so sure portland would take Oden over Durant. I would go for Durant, he has more upside, especially as he grows into his frame.

    Re: Kevin Durant to Seattle!

I see Durant being a Dirk-type player with Oden being like Yao Ming. I'd take Dirk over Yao now and I'd take Durant over Oden as well.

Although there is much a premium of big men. Example: Eric Dampier makes $15+ million per year, Raef LaFrentz makes something like $17 million, Antwawn Jamison makes similar money...those are all serviceable players but not worth that kind of money.

    Re: Kevin Durant to Seattle!

I'll put my money on Oden (for the 1st pick). Like mentioned by the "experts" last night, only a few dominant big men in the NBA haven't won a title over the past 20 years or so (Patrick Ewing comes to mind). Plus, Portland has a nice young nucleus right now in which a center would be a nice fit...

    Re: Kevin Durant to Seattle!

Here's what I would do if I were Portland - Draft Oden, somehow trade LaFrentz (which clears out 19 million in cap space) and Magliore's expiring contract for future picks. Then you go out and sign Chauncy Billups to provide some veteren leadership at the Point and somebody who can bring the young guys along.

Then you have this starting lineup:

    C Oden
    PF Randolph
    SF Martell Webster
    SG Roy
    PG Billups

And you still have Aldridge, Darius Miles, Jack, and some other quality players coming off the bench. Honestly, give that team 3 years and that's a championship caliber team.

    Re: Kevin Durant to Seattle!

Having a front line of Randolph, Oden, and Aldridge to rotate would would be a tough one to handle, but since they already have Randolph and Aldridge might be why they get Durant and play him at the 3 spot.

    Re: Kevin Durant to Seattle!

Oden and Durant are going 1-2 respectively no matter who picks. You can't pass on a big man with Oden's talent. Durant is going to be a stud too but there are always impact SF's in nearly every draft but not often is there a potential All-Star center available.

It might be interesting to see if Atlanta does anything to move up as they have the #3 and #11 I believe. You could get 2 good players with those picks which Atlanta just might do but if you are the Sonics and Atlanta offers those 2 picks for your #2 pick I might just take it and get that Yi guy that is supposedly the next Yao Ming. Then again Atlanta already has a bunch of talented SF's but none are as good as Durant probably.

Will be interesting. I was hoping that the Bulls and their 1.9% chance would somehow win it and Oden would immediately make them the favorites in the East. Oh well, they still might be able to find a decent post player at #9 or trade it for an established post player or a higher pick to get Yi.

Portland, my favorite team although it has been tough to admit for a while. I just hope that they can avoid the draft curse that will always be Sam Bowie. I hope this is a case of Jordan/Olajuwan and there is no Bowie to screw it up. Stay away from any of the Florida players and we'll be alright in Portland.

    Re: Kevin Durant to Seattle!

I saw a Chinese kid on ESPN the other day who was projected to go 5th. He has a Dirk Nowitzki style of game, and the may be a little taller and heavier than Dirk. If the Celtics get him, they won't be totally screwed.
