    Funeral airfare

Anyone ever had any luck getting a discounted rates from any of the airlines for a funeral trip??? We may be looking in the next 48 hours and I was told by someone to check into it. Any suggestions on how or who seems to be the most flexible? TIA

Bereavement Airfares - What is a Bereavement Airfare?

Bereavement fares are offered over the phone or in person at the airline's ticket counters. The information that you are required to provide in order to secure a bereavement fare is outlined on the next two pages.

    Re: Funeral airfare

Thanks. I actually read this already and was hoping to get some insight from someone who had luck getting it done. I made a few calls tonight and didn't get much off so we will probably drive the 14 hours...

Most, if not all, airlines don't give bereavement discounts anymore.

No real discount just a secured seat.

I believe that college students used to get an airfare break for bereavement. If not, try priceline.

kayak.com is the best IMO for finding the cheapest fares.

    Re: Funeral airfare

Yeah, not hard to believe they would stop giving out discounts for funerals when they are charging 25 bones just to check luggage. Sorry man.

    Re: Funeral airfare

About 8 years ago my Aunt and Uncle got a discounted rate when my grandfather passed away. I believe they went through American Airlines. They also got them on the first plane out of Alabama to Iowa.

Check with a travel agent near you. They should know who has what available.

    Re: Funeral airfare

2 years ago, my wife's grandmother died, and we were able to get bereavement fares through United. Still not cheap, but better than paying full fare for a 1-day advance ticket.
