ISU new schedule: How would you do it?
This is a thought experiment, because we don’t have any say. But an interesting exercise.
Set up your typical season schedule for ISU … assume the setup would apply similarly for all Big 12 schools.
1- You have the option to drop Iowa game or keep it — either way, be specific about the non-conference teams (list a typical sample opponent and/or conference).
2-Include the game location — required: Big 12 is 5-home/4-away and flipped the next season.
3-Suggest order of the conference games – it can be static, rotating, or a combination (mine is a combo).
4a-It isn’t necessary to keep H/A rotation as it has been – for example we’ve played OU & UT home/away in same season; that sort of thing can be altered.
4b-For simplicity, assume this would start in 2012
UL-Lafayette/Sun Belt | Idaho/WAC (alternate years)
@ Oklahoma State (x)
Texas Tech (x)
@ Oklahoma (x)
Texas A&M (x)
(x) Games against former South teams rotate front-to-back (last opponent in Season 1 becomes first opponent in Season 2, etc.) – former North matchups remain static. I didn’t test this conference-wide to see if rivalry games (last slot), other natural matchups and “traveling north in November” would be able to work more or less equally – so I might have to shuffle a few games.
I have other reservations but I’ll address those when they’re brought up.

Move the Iowa game to the Friday after Thanksgiving. With Colorado/Nebraska going away, that time slot is open.
