    AntiVirus Question - AVG

I'm mostly looking for advice/ recommendations from some of the computer gurus on CF. On my last computer I used McCaffee(sp?) and paid a small fee to have updates and the such. I really feel that the program used much of the system resources.
I also know we have a few members that don't believe in anti virus software and that if you are careful you should have no problems - that being said I am a teacher and often have to look at students projects so you just never know what the little ones will slip on a disc.
Long story short I have a new gaming PC and had a friend recommend
    __--Free AVG--__

Does anyone have any feedback about this one??

    Re: AntiVirus Question - AVG

I've been using AVG for 2-3 yrs and I love it. You set it up and forget it. It updates itself, scans and checks emails, removable media, etc..... They also have spyware that seems to work well.

    Re: AntiVirus Question - AVG

I just say the spy ware on the website as well. I really feel that I will give AVG a try unless I hear something pretty bad. So far the research I've done sounds like it will be fine for the needs I have.

    Re: AntiVirus Question - AVG

I've used AVG for a few years now, no problems at all. I use Spybot S&D for spy ware. No problems with either one.

Nah I've had my run with Macs and am no longer interested. Overpriced for what you get IMO. Plus I prefer the PC for gaming over the Mac.

But that's an entire other battle that I will try not to start.

    Re: AntiVirus Question - AVG

I have AVG (free) on one computer and avast! (free version) on another computer...I like both a lot! Haven't had a problem with either! As one poster pointed out earlier, Spybot S&D (free) is a good program to clean your computer of spyware/adware...but another good program to install is SpywareBlaster (free) because it blocks spyware/adaware from getting to your computer.

    Re: AntiVirus Question - AVG

I just installed AVG free Anti Virus. I'm sure it should be fine. At the moment it's running the check of the computer - still a new system so I'm sure I'll be ok.
I'll be sure to report back if I have any issues.

Yeah, I agree to each his own...I am the opposite, I have had my run with PC and now that I own a Mac I will never go back. When I did own PC I had AVG (free version) and had no problems to report and I certainly liked it better than all others that I tried

    That's good to hear.
Which Mac are you running currently?

I have a Macbook (about 4 months old) and the only reason I bought it is because I can only run my companies software on a Mac. We run all imac's in the office. Before I bought it I swore that I would never buy one but I have been very happy with it thus far.

Very cool. It's been awhile (to be honest) since I last owned a Mac, but did they ever do to a two button mouse or do you still need to buy that separate?

    Re: AntiVirus Question - AVG

Yeah that would be my only complaint about the desktops, it is nice to have to right click options that you get with PC's. But it is easy to learn all of the shortcuts that would be used with the right click and I don't ever us a mouse with my laptop. One of the nicest features on the laptop is two finger scrolling (just hold one finger on the pad and move the other finger down the page will scroll, instead of having to click and hold the bar on the right of the page)

What kind of PC did you buy? Thanks for the rep by the way!!
