Jaws ~ 35 years ago this weekend

Can remember like it was yesterday.

I was 9 years old at the time and waited in line with my dad for 4 hours to get in. I also recall people screaming during the movie. I hid in the bathroom during the 'head' scene.

How many of you are old enough to have seen this classic in the theatre?

I was 8 years old. Too scary a stuff for me at the time.

Classic, classic movie. One of Steven Speilsburgs first I believe?

His second behind a small film called "the Sugerland Express'.

Interesting that Universal considered shutting the film down numerous times during production.

I was 8 years old, saw it with my brother and dad at the Theater that used to be on Ingersoll Ave. Yes, people were screaming, and scared me to the point I wouldn't even take a bath for a week! Much less go to the pool!

Count me in the "old timer" group. :-) Saw it in Mason City, not sure the theatre is even there anymore. Sat in the balcony, the girls in front of us came out of their seats when Jaws appeared in the "You're gonna need a bigger boat" scene. Good times.

The first time I saw Jaws was on a black & white TV with something like a 9 inch screen. It just didn't have the same impact as I imagine it had in the theater.

I had to see it on video, as I was 5 at the time. I still get spooked about swimming in the ocean.

I am about the same age as you...I remember the screams of terror in the theatre during the movie...especially when they showed that corpse floating underwater.

My son watched it on TV because I had told him how scary it was and he was not impressed...could not believe how fake everything looked and how poor the special effects were.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

So, my wife and I put our heads together and here's what we came up with. There were three theaters in downtown Mason City, the Palace and Strand were on Main Street and the Park Theater was across from City Park. I don't remember which one I saw Jaws in.

Hmmm. The one I'm thinking of was on the west side of the street. Iirc, would have also been more on the west side of downtown, and perhaps more south than north. But it's been just a few years, memory isn't what it used to be. :-)

My brother & I were almost late to one of the packed early shows @ a theater @ Lindale Mall in Cedar Rapids and had to sit in the front row. As I think back, I am surprised our parents let us go. Could not believe the (nearly) naked girl @ the beginning. :) We were in hs.

    Hmmmmmmmmm.
I'm not positive about this, but I believe he did "Duel" before Sugarland, if memory serves me.
Regardless, the banter between the main characters during the "scar scene" (I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours) can't easily be forgotten.

I was in my mid twenties!!!!!!!!!
(They considered shutting down the film numerous times because they couldn't get the shark to keep working.) It was a contract dispute or something................
