The name Jimlad for the sarcasm pirate have any significance? Forgive my ignorance, I haven't been able to ferret out a good answer to this puzzle.

    Re: Question about 'Jimlad'

Jimlad is just the name given to that particular smiley. I think it was programmed that way, not a decision made by CF. As far as why it was selected as the symbol for sarcasm, I believe that credit is owed to SeattleClone.

    Here's the Urban Dictionary entry

    Urban Dictionary: Sarcasm Pirate

"What a horrible night to have a curse."
    -Simon Belmont

"Please bury me with all my stuff, because you know it's mine..."
    -Master Shake

"Passersby were amazed by the unusually large amounts of blood."
    -Lorem Ipsum

    Re: Question about 'Jimlad'

I don't know if this is what you were looking for, but the word "jimlad" in a pirate context, is probably a reference to the book Treasure Island.

OK, this answer seems to make the most sense. I should re-read the book I suppose.

Did anyone notice the pop-up definition of "cyclone" on this page? I wonder if this is the OFFICIAL definition? Gives Iowa States mascot a new meaning...and possibly a new logo in the works?

I can't take credit for coming up with it, I'm not sure who did. We've had this discussion before and no one has stepped forward so it must be someone who is not on the board anymore. After I saw it, I DID use it constantly and put it in my signature so it would catch on (I guess it worked) but I did not invent it.

I think it would be cool if we could spread its use across the internet. It's very hard to convey sarcasm on other message boards and in email.

On another board I post on, pbnation.com, they use the :dodgy: emoticon...

It's been around since at least 2005.

I think the original credit has to go to Roger Sprague. I wonder if he's weighed in on the confrence re-alignment talk.

Yeah, Seattle but you marketed it. A product is only as good as it's salesperson. In the end people buy from people.

    I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU

    Or so I have read.

You might be onto something, there. Roger's reputation is already pretty epic. Giving him credit for the jimlad might push him into Legendary territory.
