OT - Why doesn't Iowa have...

Breweries! We produce millions of gallons of ethanol have wineries coming out of our ears. Not to mention the demand... So that brings the question why doesn't Iowa have breweries? Any thoughts?

Plenty of micro breweries in Omaha area. Guys must be making their own in the bathtub like they do in Saudi Arabia.

Court ave brewery and Raccoon river brewing downtown in dsm are 2. They are locally owned, brew in small batches, and make some really good stuff. I used to work in a company above court ave brewery, which was good and bad. Bad for the wasteline, good for the taste buds. Of course on tuesday when they were mashing, ugh it stunk the entire building up.

Re: OT - Why doesn't Iowa have...

Premium beers (not Budweiser, Miller, etc.) do not use corn or rice for their brews, as these are considered cheap. Look up the German Purity law of 1516.

Museum of Beer and Brewing: German Purity Law of 1516

This set the "standard" for what is considered premium beer. Most European beers use some sort of grain for their sugar source

Bud is the only beer that uses rice, and truly is not beer. I don't think miller uses it, which is why miller lite tastes more like actual beer.

Strike that, there are actual rice beers, but Bud is the big mass market rice beer.

Come on, hos. Arguing Miller vs. Bud is like arguing whether a Neon or a Cavalier is a better luxury car.

Yeah well, ya know, that's just, like uh, your opinion, man.

Very true, but I do drink miller lite at football games after the shiner runs out. Plus the misses is getting a little particular on the size of my gut, so I need to cut down on the tasty high cal beer. Sucks when you have a wife that is more than 2 levels above you!

Rep points for you, I looked it up, you are correct, there is corn syrup in miller lite, so it is not truly beer either.

Re: OT - Why doesn't Iowa have...

Its one of the reason Miller has a bit more flavor than Bud.

My buddy works for Miller, and used to work for AB. Despite what it says on a Bud can, it is not the most expensive beer to brew.

Don't get me wrong, they use high quality ingredients, but they do not use "premium" or expensive ingredients.

This is why on the world market, American beers are considered cheap garbage. There are exceptions, like Sam Adams
