ISU one of only 2 in top 10 attendance for BB and VB

Iowa State and Nebraska are the only two schools in the nation that finished in the top ten in attendance in both women's bb and VB.
That's a pretty strong endorsement of our fan base, that when winners come, we turn out in droves.

Nebby was the perfect storm last year in women's basketball. They will slide back down to the middle of the B12 in their final year as will their attendance. Going to the B10 is a serious downgrade for their women's basketball program, and volleyball they give up Texas and ISU for Penn State.

I think it's a great achievement. Really, I do. It speaks volumes to how ISU fans support all of the athletic programs. But first this doesn't change the fact that we don't fill our football stadium in late October and November, and second it gives us zero bargaining power in the conference realignment table.

Women's VB in the Big 10 is a lot more than Penn State. You left out Minnesota, which is stronger program than ISU: they beat us last fall and this spring and BTW just went to the Final Four.
Illinois, Michigan State, and Michigan all have strong programs, and Wisky is coming back.

with Nebraska, the Big 12 was definitely the toughest, but now things look about equal to me. I'd say Pac 10, Big 12, and Big 10 are all about equal. Each has several top teams.

How do our ticket prices per game compare to the rest of the Big 12?

I would be more interested in revenue than attendance.

We beat Minny in the NCAA's two years ago, so they can stick it.

I'll give you MN, IL, and MI, but Michigan State, are you sure?

I don't call that strong program, I can that a program in a downward spiral. Yes, MN went to the final four with the luxury of playing on their home floor. You can't use Nebby in the same argument, because they didn't play in Lincoln, they played in Omaha.

all nebraska cares about is football.they will be poorer this year ecause they lost dr. suh.they will have a pretty salty team on defense, but will not be as good because suh will be gone.i think we can beat them this coming year. i believe iowa state will be much stronger on offense than most people think.the defense could be improved with one of our defensive ends back.i cannot wait to see the juco de rony nelson on the field.he should be a terror if he can show any of his juco pass rushing skills in any game. i would like to see more strength in the interior linemen.maybe they will move the canadian defensive end liang(sp.) into the interior defensive line. also the redshirted kid that plays defensive tackle should give our defensive line more depth.

And next season we will be the ONLY one in the top 10 for both because the front runner Huskers won't be showing up in big numbers to watch their WBB go .500.

Volleyball is a BIG deal in Nebraska, much like girls basketball is a big deal in Iowa, high school VB is very important there, and CJL has said Nebby is a great state to recruit from because their players are so well developed through the system there. And, I could be wrong, but sellout crowds for Volleyball do mean something, and Nebby does have a Volleyball booster club. I would say Football is #1, but Volleyball is #2.

Unfortunately, girls high school basketball in Iowa is not what is used to be in Iowa. The girls union is struggling to stay afloat as an independent association. Their revenue is down because people just do go to games anymore. If you ever see highlights of girls games, the gyms are 1/2 full at best, unless you have a marquee matchup. Much of this has been attributed to the fact the games are often brutal to watch. They are low scoring (38-35, 29-27, etc.) and with no shot clock, teams will get the lead and play four corners for an entire quarter. These games have no ebb and flow. If Iowa wants to be a leader in girls basketball, they need to implement at shot clock, eliminate the 10 second rule and play like the game is played in college. Meanwhile, volleyball is actually growing in Iowa. People enjoy rally scoring, and the action is fast, any really never a dull moment.

Sorry, I meant Ohio State, not Michigan State. But you original claim that Big Ten volleyball is just "Penn State and no one else" shows that you don't follow women's volleyball. Both Minn and Illinois are elite programs.

Cook was interviewed on Lincoln radio today. Predictably he is looking forward to his new schedule and recruiting opportunities gained in the midwest. He did lament a likely loss of recruiting opportunity in Texas. He stated that the Big 10/11/12 conference leads the nation in VB attendance. He ought to know, but, I'm surprised, nonetheless. PSU probably has a good following, but, I don't know about every one else.
