Re: Nebraska falls short in Big Ten

Just to keep things in perspective, this is how the Big 12 schools were ranked in 2010 by the same poll.

    Texas 47
    TX A&M 61
    Colorado 77
    Baylor 80
    Iowa State 88
    Kansas 96
    Nebraska 96
    Missouri 102
    Oklahoma 102

Didn't see a ranking for Texas Tech, Okie State or Kansas State.

I will toss a side these "facts" so I can post my original thoughts. Looks like Iowa needed to bring someone into the league so they aren't last academically.

"I've facetiously said that at the start of this process, if we had given fifth-graders the criteria, the list of institutions would be essentially the list of institutions that have been bandied about for quite a while by [the media] with much more sophisticated analysis of the sense of fit," Dr. Simon said. "But as I look at your analysis, academics hasn't been much of the conversation. That's an important component of this."

That was my first thought. No wonder there was such giddiness from Iowa City over the addition of Nebraska...

He's right that Nebraska isn't up to Big 10 academic standards. But he's a disgruntled Pittsburgher more than anything else. And Pitt had no chance in the Big 10 because Penn State already delivers that entire state. Exact same dynamic that blocked out Iowa State.
