Would you still prefer Big East?

I realize the Big 12 sticking together is great news, ISU won't have to worry about dropping out of a BCS conference. However, I think joining the Big East would have been a much better and likely scenario had the Big 12 not decided to stick together.

While the schedule may have gotten easier for OU and Texas, ISU may have to play a round robin schedule. Playing Texas and OU every season does not excite me. Keeping Iowa on the schedule would also mean playing 10 BCS opponents every season right? ISU would actually have a shot to compete for a title in the Big East, while its going to be even harder now in the Big 12. There is no guarantee that any teams will be added either. I could see Texas wanting to keep the conference at 10 teams, to secure an even easier road to future NC games.

I think there will be a mutual agreement to end the Iowa-ISU game. It makes sense from both sides now IMO. Iowa will be adding Nebraska to their schedule in place of someone like Arkansas St now. They don't want to play another BCS team in ISU either if they can get a guaranteed win against someone like Montana or something?

Don't confuse reality with your wishful thinking. The state of Iowa has far too much invested in this game to entertain your pipe dream.

Kill it. At this point I don't even care. I'll root for the Hawkeyes, all the best to them.

The Big East would have been cool, but I actually like the cozy feeling of the BigXII right now. It's reminiscent of the old Big8.

Nope. This is almost the best case scenario. Now the Big 12 needs to look at expansion back to 12.

Won't Iowa still have 8 conference games? I don't see why they would want to water down their schedule more. On our side, I could see it because we have 9 conference games presumably, but even then it probably wouldn't get cancelled.

So you don't believe it will end? How much would you wager on it?

Barta was already hinting at it this weekend.

Big 12 with 12 teams in it would be alright.

Big 12 with 10 teams and a 9 game schedule, id rather be in the big east.

This is the best for us. Big East was the 2nd best option

Being able to say we will (likely) play two games in Texas every year will help football recruiting a bit. A much broader TV deal also means we'll be on TV more.

I'm also not convinced we won't go back to 12.

He hinted at ending it a couple of years ago - it got re-upped then for 6 more years.

Bottom line is this game is too important for the state. Too much advertising dollars that just won't be generated from the ISU-UNI game that you so desire. If it wasn't good for the state it wouldn't have been restarted in the first place.

I'm excited about the round robin schedule if it plays out.

Re: Would you still prefer Big East?

I personally would rather be in the Big East, BUT, that conference is far from stable. When the Big 11 starts poaching Syracuse and Rutgers and then the ACC grabs Pitt and UCONN, all of a sudden, that FB league doesn't look so good. If I were Beebe, I'd be talking to BYU and Louisville right now.
