If Big 12 survives, do we dump Iowa?

So if the Big 12 survives with 10 teams playing a round-robin format, does the series with Iowa get dumped? They may want to get out as well, having added Nebraska. I was discussing this with a coworker at lunch (Iowa grad), and we were both in favor of ending it, and both of us have felt that way for a number of years.

I think we need to schedule 3 lightweights every year, and make sure none of those are road games to maximize revenue. We need to be banking as many wins as possible to improve our potential bowl slot. Thoughts?

I agree 100%! But...it won't ever happen. Ever. The series with Iowa is here to stay. Frankly, I keep hoping that if this new Big 12 happens that we go out and get at least two more schools to fill it back up to 12. It doesn't sound like that's going to happen either though. Basically...we better nut up and start recruiting some players.

We have to keep playing. This kind of rivalry is what makes college football great.

Financially speaking, it may make sense to stop the series, but I would rather it continue. I love the discussion on this board and on hawkeye boards the week leading up to the game, and I love watching the game itself.

Too much revenue for both schools not to play this game, but more important for revenue for us. ISU will not voluntarily dump iowa from the schedule. Game at JT w/ Iowa = Sellout. Game at JT w/ Western Michigan = 1/2 - 3/4 full.

I'm okay with dropping the series if we're going to remain at 10 teams.

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Re: If Big 12 survives, do we dump Iowa?

Iowa also will have incentive to stop the game. If the Big 10+2 expands to the Big 16, they will end up with more conference games and have less slots to put ISU into.

If it will add value to the Big12 minus2, I think they will end up adding teams to get to at least 12 if not 14 or 16.

If the Big Ten, Pac 10 and SEC all expand to 16 teams, you can bet that if the Big 12 is still around, we will be hard pressed to do so as well just to balance out the power if possible.

If we have to play all 9 conference teams that is a unbelievable tough schedule year in and year out. We need to find some easy wins early! So I guess that means leave the Hawks!

Went to Gridiron Club on Saturday with all the coaches, and the wives and Rhoads said, "Iowa wants to back out, but we are not going to let them do that.

The UofI game is a sellout, but what if we could get more home games without this series? What if we could have only one road non-conference game most years, it would be worth it. Most if not all of ISU's nonconference games seem to be at least 3/4 full. What was the attendance for NDSU last year?

I say we stop it. It's a lose lose situation for us. It's their super bowl. We win, and we should as they are in the Big 10. We lose and the nation laughs at us for losing to a team in the Big 10

Re: If Big 12 survives, do we dump Iowa?

I hate to let the series go but I don't see ISU playing 10 BCS teams. We'll need some cupcakes to make a bowl.

Also, where are you guys getting the idea that the Big10 is adding a conference game? Just curiuous.

series' like these are what makes college football great. dumping this game would be a travesty for ISU, IOWA and college football as a whole.

dump iowa and play who? another chump school so we can look like KSU. even when we lose to iowa i still feel good about ISU actually scheduling quality opponents rather than a bunch of HS teams.
