    Cyclones from outhouse to penthouse?

Hopefully, this post won't jinx anything, but if the latest rumors are true and the remaining ten Big 12 teams decide to stick together under the proposed Bebe plan, the Cyclones are in for a financial boon.

In addition to collecting appoximately $2 million in penalty fees (courtesy of Nebraska and Colorado), Iowa State's annual revenue will increase approximately $10 million/year.

Can you imagine what our athletic department could do with an extra $10 million EVERY YEAR? In addition to weaning themselves from any state support (as mandated by the BOR), they could do some major facilities upgrades like the long awaited bowling in of the football stadium.

If Paul Rhoads has that kind of financial backing, I think our football program could really take off under his leadership. And while we still wouldn't bring in quite as much revenue at the University of Iowa, we would be on a much more level playing field with them.

I hate to say this, but one cannot overstate the impact that the next 24-48 hours will have on the future of Iowa State.

That's all good and what not, but every other school that is already ahead of the curve will be receiving the same increase. Texas will be even receiving more than every one else once they start their own network. This and the fact that ISU would have to play every team in the big 12 every year in fball is concerning.

Yeah but we have done alright without it. We have been decent at turning lemons into lemonade. More money might add some sugar to sweeten that up. We have proven we can be creative with what we have. Anything is an improvement.

Texas and OU will always be ahead of ISU. If ISU can get extra $$$ and do the facilities improvements mentioned above, this is a no-brainer. Also, regarding the schedule, the time has come to end the series with Iowa. ISU gains nothing from it and the future will be difficult enough playing UT and OU every year.

Assuming we have a 10-team Big XII, that means a 9-game conference schedule with 3 OOC games (1 against Iowa). That is a tough schedule every year. Basically, we would need to schedule Sisters of the Poor or another Sun Belt school for the 2 OOC games other than Iowa EVERY YEAR, and go at least 4-5 in the conference in order to make a bowl game. That means we have to beat Baylor, KU, KSU, and Mizzou/Tech/A&M in order to go bowling, at a minimum. Ouch. Plus, we'll get pasted by OU, Texas, and probably OSU every single year.

But, at least we might get our endzone bowled in within a couple of years, so we'll have a really nice stadium to watch a 63-7 pasting in. Criticize me for being so low on our competitive chances, even with CPR, but I haven't witnessed many competitive games with us and those schools as a Cyclone fan. Recent exception: against OU in GC's first year.

My first ISU basketball game - Fred Hoiberg was on the court.
My first ISU football game - Paul Rhoads was on the sidelines.
But they hadn't yet reached their full potential.

Are you kidding me? Have you considered the alternative? I don't care that the rest of the schools in our conference will also get the same increase, and I don't care that we'll end up having to play all 9 teams each year. I'm confident that the coaching staff we have in place will be able to use those resources to elevate ISU's relative standing in the Big 12.

Heaven help us if this doesn't get approved.

Iowa State will be receiving a bigger % increase than anyone except Baylor.

It's no different then when ISU played the Huskers and Sooners every year in the old Big 8. Huskers - Sooners, Longhorns - Sooners, not much of a difference as a mismatch from my vantage point.

Other bcs teams have gone up as well, where this really helps is boosting us above other non-bcs leagues who won't see their revenue jump. Thinking mwc type teams here.

Re: Cyclones from outhouse to penthouse?

By the way, is anyone with me in thinking that JP has to completely rework our non-con schedule now? Get rid of the future games against Tulsa/Air Force and the like and schedule more Eastern Michigan and Arkansas State games. Maybe we could even get a regular series going with SDSU or NDSU, or another FCS school from our area (Missouri State?).

It would help us compete if we had a legitimate football stadium.

Take the $10M increase and bowl in the stadium with bonds.

Playing OU and UT every year is not so bad. It will be on big TV or the Big 12 network. We will be getting lots more exposure. If Fox has $170M invested, they will show the games twice - once on big channel and then on FSN. Hey, this latest scheme can make a prune taste good.

We know we will not be in the Big ten or SEC mix, so this is our Peak Hope or Max $$$$.

Texas is in the penthouse. Still. A&M and Oklahoma are on the floor below. Still. Nothing changes. This is a deal for lemmings, but ISU is stuck and will take it.

Re: Cyclones from outhouse to penthouse?

Still keep the B12 on a north/south basis. Play 4 teams the same every year, a "rival from the south that you play every year, and then 3 other teams from the South, or just 2 and play only 7 conference games, leaving room for a "cupcake" or a "big dog" from out-of-conference. As long as the NCAA allows it, I think just a 7 game conf. schedule would be better.

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

How much do we lose not having the NU game every other year? How much would we lose not having the Iowa game as well, every other year?
