    extra money for ISU

If things work out and the big XII stays together, every school is supposed to get an average of $17M a year correct? I think i read that we currently get about $5M a year now. So that's about $12M more every year for ISU.

How will that get spent? Will it all be spent just on the Athletic Dept. or will it help to fund some academic depts too? Would we see the bowling of the endzone happen a lot sooner, will Hilton get a much needed face lift?

Don't kid yourself - we're not going to get $17M a year. Texas will see to that as the reformation of the Big 12 will be done at their whim as they're going to be it's "saviors". Texas is going to be the school that benefits from this, and ISU will be lucky to see $14 million out of this. Which would be twice as much as we're getting right now, but we'll be even more of a doormat.

I would think for the first few years it would be used to stabilize our foundation. other projects would still have to wait for private funding i would guess.

Yeah, we'll probably get screwed in the deal, I've resigned myself to that fact. But, the good news is that money can take you only so far. We don't have to be a doormat.

Look at Indiana, NW and Minnesota. They're getting 20-22 mil a year from the BigTen and they still suck, even with all that glorious money.

14 (17? 20?) mil for ISU is a monstrous upgrade for the athletic department. I'd guess they'd work on upgrading our football stadium (south bowl), training facilities, give Hilton a once-over etc...

I'm totally cool with 17 mil.

    Re: extra money for ISU

If the Big 12 stays it will be because the leftovers made a deal and gave Texas even more. So I'm sure that 17 mil. won't be distributed equally.

    Re: extra money for ISU

The numbers said that it would be an average of 15-17 million per school, but if past history is any indicator, Texas will end up with about 35 million and every other school will get about 7 million

    found it

Props to IcSyU who ran the numbers using the current distribution formula after I complained about it in another thread. Here is what he came up with:

    Proposed Revenue (in millions)
    Texas 19.65728155
    Oklahoma 18.99708738
    Kansas 18.07281553
    Texas A&M 18.03980583
    Missouri 16.68640777
    Texas Tech 16.40582524
    Kansas State 16.37281553
    Oklahoma State 16.19126214
    Iowa State 15.03592233
    Baylor 14.5407767

I believe his numbers are an average of 17 mill per team but UT gets the most and baylor gets the least (just above us). His analysis which shows more than this is in the "Save B12 or Absorb MWC" thread post #86 - sorry don't know how to link there.
