    Colorado

So if the news is true that the Big 12 will stay intact, what does this mean for Colorado?

Without the Texas schools, will it will be more difficult for the Pac 10 to put together a network?

Without the dissolution of the Big 12, does Nebraska and CU have to buy out of the Big 12? Nebraska can probably afford that, but I wouldnt say the same thing for CU.

I would think that with this news, CU has to be kicking themselves for jumping the gun.

    Re: Colorado

That, and a $10 mil penalty for leaving, didn't know their budget would allow that.

If the 10 stay together, CU and NU will definitely have to pay a buyout for leaving.

Does the new Big 12 make more than the new Pac 10? CU has some major budget problems right now it seems. This could hurt them, IMO.

    Re: Colorado

They both will pay it with support of their new leagues and future expected earnings.....in terms of current budgets, probably a non issue for them.
It's a good two year stop gap and incentive for the 10 to stay, but unless they can develop a longer term plan, and get some other good schools with TV's, not a permanent solution.

CU isn't coming back or kicking themselves. They are very excited about the new conference regardless of who goes with them. Most of their alums are on the West coast and this could really help their fund-raising efforts.

I don't understand how the Big 12 couldn't get a TV deal in place. That is just ridiculous. Call Fox or Direct TV and tell them you want a network and they will make it happen. Beebe is completely incompetent. He is missing out on the opportunity to make millions and this whole situation would have been avoided.

The way I understand it, at the Big 12 meetings a few weeks ago, they did talk about the TV contract coming up. I don't know what they said, but I think Pollard said somewhere that Beebe did talk about the options that were presenting themselves on the TV front.

If the Big 12 stays in tact Colorado's fund raising better pick up. For an athletic department in financial distress, a $10M payout would seem to be very bad for the near future.

This is what I thought as well. Hope they like Hawkins, because they definitely won't be able to get rid of him any time soon.

    Re: Colorado

Colorado gave a two year notice. I think the bylaws state 24 month notice or more and there is no buyout.

I thought 9 of the 12 schools had to approve of them leaving, or they had to pay the buyout.

Didnt they want to leave even before it looked like the Big 12 would implode? If so, money aside, why would they care?

If the B12 stays together - a 10-2 vote. CU later will be paying the buyout, and Nebby will too, regardless of what they say.
