Conspiracy theories so crazy, they make sense...

Like most of you, I have been following this story pretty intently over the course of the past week.

I also live in Dallas, so I hear all the speculation from my friends that attended Baylor, Tech, A&M, and UT (soon to be former friends).

I found this article on an A&M board. I apologize if this has been previously posted.

Had I read this letter two weeks ago, I would have ranked it up there with the Fox special about not landing on the moon. However, it does make a lot of sense. If nothing else, its an entertaining read.

After reading through all of these threads, it seems everyone is agreement that UT is truly at fault. Now if only we could get the mainstream media to publicly acknowledge that.

I'm convinced that a lot more of that is true than we will ever know.

    Well, it's a new twist I hadn't seen.

If it's true, who knows I hadn't thought about SEC feeling vulnerable, but some of it makes sense.

I'm sure there are shades of truth to this. Obviously, both Fox (which includes Big 10 network and Directv) and ABC/ESPN would like to see their product significantly upgraded in comparison to CBS.

Also, getting ND would improve their product and kill a competitor (NBC).

I'm not sure Texas was involved in the grand scheme, but I could see the B10 and P10 aligning themselves secretly.

Re: Conspiracy theories so crazy, they make sense...

I still think it would be great if the other south teams were going along with Texas on a potential move as a bluff and right after Texas signs with another conference the other south teams back out.

Then, the Big12 invites a team or two in (i.e. TCU and/or Utah) and we have the same conference, minus the two that were basically the problem to begin with: Nebraska and Texas. We re-write the revenue sharing guidelines and start our own network.

And we live happily ever after while Texas and Colorado get marginalized by the Pac10 and Nebraska goes on to sniff a Big10 championship every 4-6 years from this point forward.

Is there anyway ISU could end up in the SEC if this all plays out? My guess is 1% but that woudl be awesome. SEC would add 4 schools... (takes tinfoil hat off)

Makes more sense than anything I have read in awhile. A little crazy on some cases, but I can see the ABC vs. CBS battle for sure.

Re: Conspiracy theories so crazy, they make sense...

As I said when this all started, the Big 12 ceases to exist. I said it was obvious. I didn't say why and I may have had the co-conspirators mixed up (I said Big 10 and SEC).

My bad, I wasn't remembering the whole PAC10/Big10 Rose bowl alliance, etc.

I hope the Presidents and AD's have wised up and are talking about Big 12 less Texas as a possibility, although it is too late if A&M has already left for SEC. If that does happen, I may have called it exactly right on SEC and Big10, but not on the 4-5 teams left out.

Oh yeah, and Texas is definitely involved in this deal. Watch for them to get some sort of waiver to have their own network in PAC10 or some other favoritism for being the Trojan Horse. But don't forget about Nebraska in all of this either.

That's why it's really important that the PAC does not get two aqs and the big east does the 20/12 for 2012. It stabilizes nd and throws another wrench in this evil plot. Don't be surprise if a&m holds off on making a decision so they can collect on buyouts. In case everyone forgot they are 16 million in debt. Then they take Baylor with em to the sec, ku or mu goes pac10 and the other three with Memphis go big east. It's clearly just a theory.

The Big 10 and Pac 10 are obviously colluding to destroy the Big 12 and increase their own power. Not really a conspiracy theory, I think thats pretty clear.

Re: Conspiracy theories so crazy, they make sense...

Of course, it all makes sense!

I'll throw a self-centered twist in there -- if Texas is instrumental in all of this, what if Mack Brown sent Gene Chizik to sabotage a rising Big 12 North program that was perceived to threaten this "master plan" the Big Ten/Pac-10 had cooked up?

Conspiracy theories are fun, and it's even more believable when you throw in the ABC/CBS twist there. I take it all with a grain of salt, though.

Re: Conspiracy theories so crazy, they make sense...

There was also some chat about the Big 10-12 and the Pac 10-12 wanting more big time programs so their conferences could get 2 BCS teams, insuring the Rose Bowl always having a Big 10-12 / Pac 10-12 matchup, thus making more money for the conferences.

Doesn't the Pac 10 Commish (Scott) have some previous connections in the Big 10?

No he just has a extensive background in sponsorships and TV deals:

PAC-10 OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE - On Campus

"Credited most notably as the architect of the largest-ever sponsorship in both women's sports and professional tennis, a six-year $88-million landmark title sponsorship agreement with Sony Ericsson beginning in 2005, Scott also signed the largest television deal in the history of women's tennis, launched its biggest marketing campaigns, and spearheaded the 2007 passage of the Roadmap 2009 initiative, the most sweeping reform package in the history of the women's game designed to create a stronger and more entertaining women's tennis product for fans and featuring a 40 percent increase in prize money to a record $86 million and $750 million of stadium facility investment."
