Coale speaks on expansion effects on WBB

As mentioned if Fennelly's twitter - a lot of the big 12 WBB coaches are not happy about seeing the Big 12, top RPI, top attendance league being dealt a huge blow. Coale not to happy about going to Pac 10 either.... going from the top attendance conference in the country with several thousands every night to playing games at places scrapping the barrel to get 1000.

Don't forget LEADING the league in attendance. Downright insulting. We can't even get press in the sports we're really good at.

It all comes down to dollars and when womens basketball brings the kind of money to the table football brings, then it will be a factor. Sheri can express her opinions, but OU is going to do what's best for football.

Also, we have to quit getting all upset because every article published about the expansion doesn't mention ISU. Yes, we are in the top three in attendance, but the article took the perspective of two coaches and what they thought of the expansion, not how it would impact each member school.

I wasnt saying that everybody should be feeling sorry for ISU but they could at least mention that we actually have something to offer in the sport they were talking about...and i didnt say anything about how it would impact each member school. wtf?

"It could be well-argued that last year the Big 12 was the best conference in the land with Oklahoma and Baylor reaching the Final Four, Nebraska spending much of the season as an unbeaten team and programs such as Texas A&M, Texas and Oklahoma State camping out in the national rankings. The Big 12 was No. 1 in conference RPI last season."

I'm pretty sure that ISU spent as much time, if not more, in the rankings than texas or Okie state

Yes, I'll bet women's bb at OU loses even more money than at ISU. OU pours tons of money into minor sports that do well nationally - m/w gymnastics, baseball, m/w golf, etc. in addition to women's bb. And it's all due to the football revenue.

Not when it seems to be EVERY article no matter what it seems to talk about. As far as I am concerned Iowa State is a top five womens basketball school in the COUNTRY not just the big twelve. Its all about fan support and Iowa State is one of the best. I just hope my comment was sarcastic enough. Someone has to get the word out and no one is going to do it for us. Bottom line...out of sight out of mind.

We have a great program, but we are not one of the top five. It's more than attendance.
For example, in women's VB, Wichita State's attendance is higher than ours - does that mean their program is better? Uh, no, not even close.

That is a fair argument. Maybe I should have said top 16 program in the country.

Oh, I agree - we are a heavyweight program. Just listen to comments from opposing players - Texas, Nebraska, A&M, etc. - about playing at Hilton in front of our large crowd. They get excited to play here, for it is so rare.
Only two Big 12 women's programs - ISU and OU - have game environments even close to a men's game.

Its about dollars and cents, and womens basketball does not make money. The only school that makes money on womens basketball is UCONN. Even Tennessee loses money for womens basketball.

I see 6 teams mentioned. The Big 12 sent 7 teams to the NCAA Tournament last year. Iowa State is the only one not mentioned.
