DB has been saying through this whole process that the next Big12 tv contract would be huge

If we do move forward with this, we need to use this extra 10 mil\yr wisely. Build the facilities we need to be a respectable BCS program. It will not be very long before texas pulls this kind of stunt again, and we need to be more prepared next time around.

    2) Less bowl eligible teams with an extra 5 conference losses every year from a 9 game schedule.
    3) A TV contract that does not give exclusive rights so that member institutions can have their own broadcasts. How in the world are we selling less and getting a much bigger contract than we currently make?

It just doesn't add up to me. If we could have made this much money why weren't we already doing it?
The most Recent SEC TV deal really showed what the Networks are bidding on TV packages. It was a drastic increase over previously. that plus the national success of the Big 12 schools showed us what we could get in renegotiations. Especially if we got rid of a school the networks are less interested in.

Who Cares About a Level Playing Field!!

ISU will never have a level playing field with Texas, even it there was 100% revenue sharing of TV $. The Longhorns budget is around $140M annually and ISU's budget is around $43M.

This whole situation ticks me off beyond belief. There is definitely something wrong with the greed that exists within college athletics today where schools like Texas feel that $140M is not enough of an advantage.

That said, if Beebe is able to keep the 10 current members of the Big 12 together that would be the best scenario for ISU without question. The Big East is a poor option for ISU even if KU, KSU and Mizzou were part of the equation. What's the closest school in FB? Louisville & Cincy are a good 8-10 hours away.

IMO keeping the current 10 together stabilizes things. Then I think the Big 12 needs to go on the offensive if Beebe can secure a contract for $17M. Why not approach Arkansas? IMO they are a better fit in the Big 12 than SEC. Looking at some MWC schools might be an option too.

I also think that existing rules like 12 teams needed to have a conference championship game need to be relooked. It might even become irrelavent if a college playoff is in the future.

A playoff system of 8 or 16 teams is coming- greed with drive it. IMO that is another reason to make sure ISU is part of a BCS conference vs. the MWC. That is the other thing that makes this whole situation a joke. It would not surprise me if a 16 playoff system generates hundreds of million $ annually and be worth $5-$10M/school.

Excuse me. I didn't advocate that at all. I'm not saying that we shouldn't be in the BCS...in fact, I WANT to be in the BCS. I'm just saying that we aren't Texas, and being owned by Texas is probably not great for our future even if it means a little more money right now.

My first ISU basketball game - Fred Hoiberg was on the court.
My first ISU football game - Paul Rhoads was on the sidelines.
But they hadn't yet reached their full potential.

    Re: Encouraging news from Orangebloods

I still like the option of a merger with the MWC. As Beebe seems to indicate the B12 TV deal would be renegioated for bigger $$$. Well guess what, a merged B12 remnants/MWC would probably get a TV deal for the same $$$ we are getting today. So with the merger we stay the same. As was previously mentioned, in FB playing UT, OU, TAM, TT, and then OSU, MU every year (along with Iowa) essentially means, if anything, our odds of getting to a bowl game are even worse . And here is the kicker, with the 10 team B12 our BB hopes are down the tubes. CU and NU were the only games we could win year in and year out. Take them away and you are looking at a similar position for MBB; we are bottom feeders only. Sorry I'd rather be in a conference were we have a chance at success.

If you take away our BCS affiliation, ISU could potentially fall behind by the magnitude of $10-15 million/year. That means we would never ever expand the seating capacity at Jack Trice.

Forget seating capacity, it would mean the loss of more sports and a lot more jobs.

This is the solution: Keep the B12 together.

Last year ISU gets ~$7 Mil, New contract $17 Mil, that's $10 Mil extra.

What could you do with $10 Mil extra a year? Bring back baseball? Add Hockey? Seriously we should all hope this deal comes through.

Disagree. We obviously want to use all cash wisely. But what will help us next time around in 5 years is 5 years of success in Mens basketball, and Football.

Upping our brand is what helps. Conferences don't care about your facilities as much as they do about what you bring for TV revenue, and people don't care how big your stadium is on TV.

Yes I agree. I'm just pointing out that joining the Big 10 would be the best option, but the chance of getting an invitation is about 1%, maybe less.

Put it in the bank for a couple years from now when Texas decides to leave?

It is beyond me how some fail to comprehend this simple fact.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

You must be a relatively young Cyclone. ISU MBB used to win a lot of games in the Big 12. That was before McDermott came and screwed everything up. Now that problem is fixed.
