    Pat Forde: Is he right?

Twitter / Chris Randleman: Pat Forde on ESPN Radio a ...

"Pat Forde on ESPN Radio a few minutes ago - "Baylor has ridden coattails and Iowa State doesn't bring much to the table"

In my opinion Pat Forde should be a little more educated here. A top directors cup institution, we travel like crazy fans, etc. But, like all - he has the football and basketball blinders on.

And last time I checked Baylor isn't terrible. Basketball team is solid and football has a solid foothold in Texas.

    Yes, he's right.

I wish people would stop throwing out the directors cup stat, it doesn't mean anything.

So you think the other thousands of student athletes that play other sports besides Basketball and Football don't mean anything? Not trying to start anything, just curious. The Directors Cup stat is something that Geoffry and Pollard are really proud of.

Last time I checked the Big 10 Network does show other sports, to a national audience.

You might mention that to Lisa Koll next time you see her. You might also mention it to Learfield, who puts up a bunch of corporate money to sponsor it.

Not saying they dont matter. But they make no money at all. If it wasnt for FB those teams wouldnt be possable. Do you think the Big 10-16 added Neb because of its VB or womans BB team? No they added them because their FB team is going to bring the conferene money. Does anyone watch those other sports the BTN has on?

Truth sometimes hurts. ISU is not a good sports school. What we think is a great season (2009-2010) would be a disaster at other schools.

    I disagree, somewhat.
While, the small sports don't get a lot of attention, they do matter. Football, obviously, is the most important, especially in the publics eye.
But, what matters even more than football, is the TV market. I guarantee you if Iowa State University was located in the twin cities or the only D-1 school in the state, we would be on the top of a lot of peoples list (i.e. Colorado).

a disaster? how many teams won a bowl game last year-32 or so? i highly doubt most of those schools considered their season a disaster. and while being a not very good sports school, we have a very good fan following. compare our attendance with any other 7-6 football team from last year, or any 2-10 team from the prior year. or our mbb attendance.

I disagree. Our football season last year was amazing. Beating NU in Lincoln and beating a Big 10 school in a bowl game in the 1st year of a new coach is nothing short of a miracle. Especially when we had the same players that..oh a certain coach at Auburn had to play with.

It is sad that is not being pushed to the front a little bit more

Some of us need to get over ourselves. This is about only 1 thing and thats media market size. The other sports don't matter. Football and basketball wouldn't matter either if we were a top 10 media market. Most of us went to ISU, graduated from ISU, met our spouses at ISU.... and we all have fond memories of ISU but that does NOT translate into dollars or increased prestige in the B10 or PAC10. We're the younger brother thats been tagging along but now our older siblings have outgrown us and we have to fend for ourselves.

We'll land somewhere and it won't be as big or important as the B12 is/was. Thats just what it is, and we'll all adapt and one day talk about fond memories of the B12 like some of us are old enough to talk about fond memories of the B8.

You are talking about media market size. Boise State doesn't have a media market. They win ball games and they were rewarded with entrance into the Mountain West, not because they have tv sets to fill. Iowa State won ball games last year, more than many in the Big 10 and Big 12.
