If your going to rebuild the big 12, Memphis looks like a good start.

Fed EX will pay a BCS conference 10 million annually if they invite Memphis, if your going to rebuild the Big 12 I think Memphis is a no-brainer. Only question is, would a rebuilt Big 12 be a BCS Conference?

I would agree, along with Cincinnati and Louisville.

Nice Tier 4 university to start it off.

That said, I'm sure money would rule.

Re: If your going to rebuild the big 12, Memphis looks like a good start.

So, we invite them to the Big 12 if we decide to do that.
Or, we we go to the Big East, they will probably join as well, even if KU leaves us for the Pac 10. Memphis would take their spot in our division. Otherwise, everybody goes to Big East and they expect the Big 10 to poach one or two of their current teams.

I actually think new threads like these deserve to be just that, new threads. A lot of stuff would get lost in one large Alignment thread, per say. Makes it easier to read, more organized, on topic, etc.

Re: If your going to rebuild the big 12, Memphis looks like a good start.

If (big IF) the remaining Big 12 schools stay together, then I think they should invite Houston and Tulane to the Big 12. Put Oklahoma and Okie St in the "North" and Houston and Tulane in the "South". That would introduce the Houston and New Orleans markets to any deal for a TV network (more house holds which = more money). Putting Ok and Ok St in the North puts a strong team in the North and sets up more battles with "traditional" Big 8 rivals.

Now, that is just thinking about $$ and households, but it would make the Big 12 much stronger for a TV deal. I have no idea how good or bad Houston or Tulane is academically, but I am not sure how much that matters anymore.

Sure...the New BIG12 would love to have you!

6 schools have to remain for us to keep our BCS deal correct?

Well, if we're going the automotive route, lets expand into Wyoming and grab WyoTech, too.

Re: If your going to rebuild the big 12, Memphis looks like a good start.

Provided that the remaining 10 teams stay, I think Memphis would be a great addition to the conference. They come with that 10 mil, plus the Memphis area's tvs. Then we should go after Louisville if the Big East breaks apart. That would bring us back to 12. Then we could try adding either Cincinatti and/or Arkansas and TCU and/or Houston. Making our own super-conference.

UH would be OK but Tulane would better be replaced with SMU...Dallas is a better market than New Orleans and SMU is truly commtted to athletics whereas Tulane's President Scott Cowan has talked about lowering the profile of athletics at Tulane ever since Hurricane Katrina.

By the way, both Tulane and SMU are great academic schools. All of this discussion of academics has made me realize that a lot of ISU people have a rather inflated self-perception of ISU's academic stature. I'm not saying ISU is not a good academic school but a lot of people appear to think it is better than a lot of the various methods of rating such things show.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
