    Old ISU item from 1939

I saved an item from my Father's estate several years ago which I have no idea of what it represents. He graduated from ISU in 1939. It appears to be an award of some nature. Made of heavy brass about 4" tall. The base has the inscription: Alpha of Iowa 1939. He was a successful letterman but I suspect the item was academic in nature. And maybe it was just a fancy doorstop. Anyway, anybody out there got a clue?

My Uncle was an engineer graduate in the same time period. This item could have been his and ended up in my Father's hands.
