What are some thoughts on our coaches futures at ISU? With all the conference bushleague that's goin on..do CPR and Hoiberg stay at ISU for the long-haul?

    Re: Coaching Future

neither leave in the next year but assuming they both have success:
    CPR - No
    Hoiberg - Yes
(edit - had these back words because I thought the question was who would leave, but it actually was who would stay)

    Re: Coaching Future

My fear is that our Athletic budget which is currently $41MM drops to $20-$25MM five years from now. On top of it, travel expenses will be rising. Where are the cuts going to come from? Positions are, unfortunately, going to have to be eliminated and/or people are going to have to take paycuts.

    Re: Coaching Future

CPR will leave for the right job and the right money... especially if isu becomes the 'wrong' job (not in a major conference)
I think hoiberg is here for a very long time if he wins.
Fennelly is here if we're division 3.
CJL probably starts listening to those offers..

Totally inappropriate and unrealistic to speculate on such matters. No one could possibly have enough information to even begin to form an opinion on the topic, including those men themselves.

Hoiberg is but not necessarily CPR. He was just born close to Ames, he is not an alumni nor did he play here. He would be more willing to stay than, say, Chizik or someone else we could've gotten, but he is glued here (like I would say Hoiberg would be/is).

He likes it here but you tell me if we get booted to the CUSA conference and he goes on and wins 5 10 win seasons in a row and Michigan, Ohio State, or someone of that caliber comes knocking that he wouldn't take it (if even just for the 4x pay raise?) Ya right...

    Agreed somewhat.

Basketball can have big success without conference status - see Memphis, Butler, MWC and Pioneer League teams. Definitely agree on Hoiberg.

as for CPR, it depends on how much success, as well as the conference we finally land in....

...However, TCU and Boise St. have both built fantastic programs w/o conf stature, and for the most part - kept their good coaches.... so who knows.

That is a lot of hope considering our region. TCU lives in Playerville and Boise takes the riff raff.

If we are in the MWC...yes...if we are in the newly structured and rebranded Big East...no, they stay.

Both TCU coach Gary Patterson and Boise State Coach Chris Peterson have been offered huge salary increases at BCS schools in the past They have turned these offers down. All we can do is pray that Paul Rhoads, Bill Fennelly, Christy Johnson, Fred Hoiberg and other choose to do the same thing.

    Re: Coaching Future

Let me know what conference we are in then this becomes an actual discussion. Until then it is ridiculous.

    I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU

    Or so I have read.
