If we stand a chance next round... we need a ******

I hate to say it, but we need one to even compete. Plus, might as well since wyoming/msu is doing it.

No, and no. Posting things like this is a great way to make people think we are cheating and get us disqualified.

What evidence do you have that suggests they are using *******? Their massive voting totals are the result of many people with nothing better to do who have found out ways to use the system.... WITHOUT cheating. Massive human voting (even by the same people over and over again) is perfectly legal.

Re: If we stand a chance next round... we need a ******

As far as we can tell, neither side is scripting. There are some recently-discovered tricks to use in voting that result in hundreds of votes per person in a short time. The enter-button trick is the most noteworthy, and though it's ethically questionable, I think that whole argument is officially out the window as of this round. Both sides have lots of people using it, hence the absurdly high vote count. We probably need to get everyone here doing that on multiple computers to keep up next round.

I'm absolutely not condoning it, but theoretically, if we get in a fight with MSU or Wyo, we could use ******* and CBS wouldn't be able to tell because of the huge amounts of votes coming in at all hours of the day and night. So we could ******, but shouldn't...

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

I think there is a way that CBS can tell if someone is using a ****** or not. It's not the number of votes that come in from a single computer, but the way they come in. I'd rather not get caught cheating.

The only way to win is to organize a massive army of hungry Cyclone fans who are hungry for revenge against MSU (most likely). These people are going to need to vote OFTEN. It would be a long week.

I cannot believe how much attention this is getting here and in the other schools.

Well, there is nothing else going on with major collegiate athletics right now. We as fans are able to earn some intrinsic reward by helping our team/school win even a mundane web poll. And the good old "My Dad can beat up your Dad" competition whereas we have substituted paternal units for school fan support. At least that is how I see it.

    Agree completely.

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

So what is this trick with the enter button? What is the most efficient way for me to vote? Someone said to turn off cookies, click on ISU and then click my middle button to open up multiple tabs of votes for ISU. Is there a better way?

That's just it- this isn't getting any attention when you compare us to Wyoming or MSU. The last time there was any sort of mailing or public mention of Iowa State's participation in this was early in the second round. If we want to even think about having a chance, we've got to get the word out to alumni all over the country, and maybe into the media. (That's hard because there aren't many regions of this state that are solidly fans of one team or the other, but maybe it could happen.)

Anyone else see the warning that is currently up on the Wyoming/ Michigan St. poll?

I did, and I hope that both get disqualified, but especially Mich. St. I have a feeling CBS wants to just warn, but not really DQ anyone else. I don't know that they would.

So you think online polls warrant publicity?

I am going to create an online poll asking:

Which business school graduates are the most valuable to a company?
    A. Iowa State
    B. Harvard
    C. Carlson School- U of MN
    D. Other

Let's stuff the ballot and see if I can get a raise or market myself better for my next job.

I applaud those that feel the need to vote and do vote often. I just think it is silly to think it has any meaning or that it should warrant any media or public attention.

The attack is unnecessary. You read too much into my post. All I was doing is comparing us to both Wyoming and Michigan State. Relative to those two schools, Iowa State has done very little to publicize this. Whether or not it is warranted, that publicity has positively impacted the number of alums/fans of those two programs that are aware of this poll.

As for whether or not attention outside of discussion forums is warranted, I suppose that there are arguments both ways, and the decision is ultimately personal preference and nothing more. Those against it can use the obvious argument of, "It's just an internet poll that's poorly enforced and doesn't mean anything anyway." Which is true, more or less. On the other side, though, is the argument of increased publicity for athletic programs. Even if this poll isn't selling merchandise, there's no doubt that it is creating brand recognition, which any athletic department and university is thrilled to receive. Before this poll, I sure didn't know that Wyoming's mascot was the Cowboys. (I probably could have figured it out, but you get the point.) There are plenty of schools that I'd never heard of before, but now I not only have heard of them, but know where they are located, what their mascot is, and what their school colors are. Assuming we win our division, we're going to be grouped with Michigan State and Arkansas- both successful programs in big-league conferences. People will (correctly or incorrectly) realize/assume that we are on the same level. They'll know who we are and recognize the "Cyclones". That's good.
