Izzo to Cavs (?) - good for ISU

With Jeff Grayer's connections in Michigan, if Izzo goes to the Cavs, that could be good for ISU on the recruiting recruiting front.

I think Bill Self takes that job if Izzo heads for the NBA.

Assuming they pay their next coach $3M per year, I would imagine that they won't see to big of a drop off in their performance.

I doubt that, no one wants to move to Michigan, plus, Kansas has a better name/history. Unless Kansas is left out in the cold and doesn't get into a decent conference.

I don't think so. Self has no connection to MSU, and already has one of the top basketball coaching jobs in the country. Plus, MSU has a handful of good asst. coaches on staff. They could probably promote from within & ensure continuity.

I think Brian Gregory from Dayton will get a look from MSU if Izzo bolts.

i'm underwhelmed at the michigan recruiting pipeline - an espn article a few weeks ago noted that there are 200,000 fewer 18yr olds in the state today than 20 yrs ago. the talent just isn't there anymore (same with OH and PA).

Or they'll hire from within. That's what they did with Izzo, and it worked out very well for them.

Michigan is ranked 8th in the US in population (around 10M). Also, that number of 200,000 doesn't seem right. Assuming it holds for kids under 18, that would mean 3.6 million fewer kids 18-and-under than 20 years ago? And according to US census data, the population has actually risen since 1980. I wasn't precise enough...

In the past decade, the state of Michigan suffered a net reduction of 246,000 residents under the age of 18. From the 1980 census to 2008, the number of Ohio residents age 15-19 fell 19.7 percent, from 1,007,679 to 809,174.

The numbers indicate that the trend will continue. From 2000 to 2008, the number of Ohio children age 5-9 fell 10 percent, from 816,000 to 737,000.

No disrespect to Jeff Grayer but I'm not sure he has the a quality of recruiting connections in Michigan that some on this board seem to think he has. In the city of Flint, maybe, but outside of that I doubt his connections are tremendous.

Self has been unhappy at KU for a couple of years now. Obviously, that doesn't mean KU is a bad job, he's just tired of the criticism etc.......he coached in the Big 10 before, and if KU is not in a BCS conference he is as good as gone.

You don't have to do public data anymore....just check the rivals and scout.com lists....on state by state....
