    Take that LSU!!!!!!!!1

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

I believe exclusivity was one of the criteria too...to think we did that well with an acceptance rate > 80%

What a stupid factor in college rankings.

Letter from Stanford President from 1996 that I think still applies today.

I didn't realize that the Big XII was such a **** poor conference academically. Oklahoma State, Kansas State, and Texas Tech are all tier three schools???!!!! Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma not even cracking the top 100 and NU squeaking in at 96. Wow! pathetic.

Careful here. US News rankings should be considered for entertainment purposes only. A full half of a school's score is based on how other university presidents rank any given school, and on a given schools's entrance requirements, which of course opens the whole process up to manipulation. I mean really, what does the President of William & Mary know about Washington State, or vice versa? Clemson is a great example of how schools manipulate the US News rankings through entrance requirements.

The AAU is a better indicator of a school's academic prowess, and seven Big XII (or I guess I should say former Big XII) schools are AAU members (CU, ISU, KU, Texas, TAMU, Nebby, Mizzou). If the Big XII is such a horrible academic conference, then why are these other conferences who put a premium on academics trying to poach its schools?

Here's an alternative ranking guide that I find very interesting and no less relevant than the US News rankings. Notice how high ISU is on this list.

Re: Iowa State 2010 USNews Ranking

Oh yeah, don't forget they also take into account campus buildings. If you have a new building, your rank will jump.
Also they take into account PUBLISHED research. So if the professors publish one paper, the school will get credit, even there are other professors having 3-4 papers being worked on.

Not saying you're wrong, but the other conferences are poaching our conference schools because of football, money and television sets.

jeeze, i didnt know we were that low, i was really contemplating whether to go back to U of Illinois to finish off school now, i was made to believe the chemical engineering here was pretty good, after looking around other schools i was accepted to previously, this was the lowest of them all. Other engineering fields were good, just chemical wasn't up to as what i hoped

This really has nothing to do with individual departments. The chemical engineering graduate department is ranked like 33rd I believe. Undergrad rankings really mean very little as long as you do research and get good grades assuming you want to go to grad school. If you aren't going to grad school then it probably means even less.

These can't be factual unless they include football records and TV market share right?
