    Consider this scenario...

    What if...
In an effort to stick it to these "Super-Conferences" the NCAA does not alter the BCS bowl format. Therefore awarding only 1 automatic BCS bid to Pac 10(or 16), the Big 10 (or 16), SEC, Big East, ACC, and adds an automatic bid for MWC in absence of the Big 12.

The Cyclones could join the Big East or MWC and have a much better shot at a BCS bowl than the Hawkeyes or any member of a "Super-Conference"

They can make all their money from their TV contracts. We can make ours from winning conference championships and going to BCS bowls.

Chew on this scenario for a short moment... think it over. And then please respond.

All the superconferences would get together and not use the bcs.

If you have never won the Big 12 what makes you think you will win the Big East. While the Big East is not the best football conference they still have some pretty good teams. ISU would struggle to finish in the top half of that conference as it currently stands.

It would suck to be in the situation ISU is in. Hopefully for the state of Iowa everything works out. I fear that much of the speculation is simply wishful thinking on the behalf of those who were left out.

None of this is going to be good for Iowa either... more money but at the expense of no longer being one of the top teams in their conference.

    Re: Consider this scenario...

I think the bigger question is whether the BCS will allow more than two teams from the same conference. With 16 teams and a potential of Texas, tOSU, Mich, and ND all in the same conference someone is going to get upset if only two can go each year.

The NCAA can't alter the BCS bowl format, because it doesn't control the BCS.

The BCS is a separate organization made up of heavy hitters from each of the 11 conferences (and Notre Dame). They make their own rules regarding qualification and the determination of a champion, because the NCAA has chosen to not officially offer a championship in FBS (I-A).

Exactly once all these super conferences are created. BCS will have to adjust their rules or they are gone.

You guys keep saying it hoping that's true. However they have only added Nebraska so far. That's hardly going to hold us back. Texas on the other hand would put more a wrench in things.

As it stands right now we can still win championships or at least compete for one of the top three spots in the league. Wisconsin, Iowa, PSU, OSU are all schools that could beat Nebraska today if they played.

My point really was what makes ISU fans think that moving to the Big East will all of a sudden result in championships?

Because we own the Big East: Fact.

I don't think we do think it will lead to championships, but I do think it will increse or possibility of doing so...in football at least. That and the basketball side would be insanely good, a helluva challenge with some NCAA tournamant type matchups in conference play. The entertainment value would be off te charts.

Why wouldn't it? It would be the same model Iowa used to back into a couple BCS bowls. Probably a little harder, given there would be a conference title game.

We'll have a much better chance to compete in the Big East.

For one, the athletic budgets are much more on par with ours. UT's budget is a good 3-4x larger than ours. We can never compete with that.

No one has a monopoly on power and money in the Big East like UT does in the Big 12.

New recruiting territories open in the east. That is Paul Rhoads' former stomping ground.

Big East has television deals in place with ESPN and CBS. Our exposure is almost certain to elevate.
