No we can't put it to rest just yet. Will his leaving hurt our AP Ratio? Inquiring minds want to know.

Yikes. I haven't been on CF too much lately, so this is the first I have heard of this. The article doesn't really say, why exactly is he transferring? PT? You'd think he would have gotten valuable time with Corey leaving.

No, all rumors have it pointing toward an academic thing.

And yes, his leaving will hurt our APR. How that may effect us, as far as I know, is up for the NCAA to decide.

Dunson said he leaves Iowa State in good academic standing, but wanted a different place "to get me feet under me."

Maybe we can get Stinnett to transfer to ISU now :)

Wow, I didn't even know Dodie was Irish!

The real question here is, does all the leaving push this program back another year or two? I can't see how it doesn't.

I thought originally it would take McDermott until his third year to get on track and make a splash. He could still do it, but some of these kids have to have an immediate impact to do that. It might be more realistic to think that we'll be a force to be reckoned with from the fourth year on out. Good luck to Dodie, thanks for being a Cyclone!

    Re: Dunson transfer official...

I don't think it hurts us too much unless we start losing our highest recruits per position from here on out.

This class is his first class with a full year of recruiting. And all is not lost from last class... our top two threats from last class are still here.

We're bringing in such promising recruits in this coming class, and hearing about big name players for classes after that I think the excitement of the program is on the rise so much that we don't have too much to worry about at this point.

    From today's RAG...

"Dunson, who averaged 5.2 points off the bench and was the team's best free-throw shooter at 81.6 percent, said he will transfer to Vincennes University, a two-year school in Indiana."

NOTE: I posted the link to the article this came from in an earlier post.

Mid-Iowa Newspapers - Cyclone guard Dunson leaving team

    Cyclone guard Dunson leaving team
    By: Eric Petersen
    05/14/2007

Iowa State men's basketball player Dodie Dunson is leaving the team.

Dunson, a freshman guard, said Monday he will transfer to a Vincennes University, a junior college in Indiana. He averaged 5.2 points and 1.5 rebounds mostly as a reserve last season.

Dunson said he would have been academically eligible for next season, but wanted to make more of a commitment to academics. The workload at ISU was more than he could handle.

"From an academic standpoint I wanted to be more successful in class than in basketball," Dunson said. "I want to get a degree. It's the right choice to make right now.
"The basketball was great. The coaches, players and the fans were all like family to me."
Dunson is the third player to leave the Cyclones since the season ended in March.

Point guard Corey McIntosh transferred to Augustana College, a Division II school in Sioux Falls, S.D., and forward Ross Marsden quit the team but will stay at ISU as a student.

Twelve players are scheduled to be on scholarship next season, one short of the maximum 13 available.
