    Big East 20 basketball Conference

I know there is still a lot to be done in terms of conference expansion and I would rather waste my time doing this. I started to think about how the Big East would look with 20 teams. I figure they would split into four divisions with each division having 5 teams. They would look something like this:

    Division I
    Iowa St.
    Kansas
    Kansas St.
    Missouri
    Marquette

    Division II:
    Depaul
    Notre Dame
    Cincinnati
    Louisville
    South Florida

    Division III:
    West Virginia
    Pittsburgh
    Georgetown
    Villanova
    Rutgers

    Division IV:
    Seton Hall
    Syracuse
    UConn
    Providence
    St. Johns

Each team in the division would play each other twice a year. Meaning that ISU would play Kansas twice, once at home and once on the road. Right now the Big East plays 18 conference games. Which means ISU could play two out of the three divisions and switch another division for the other after two years of play. For example ISU would play against Division II and Division III and after two years ISU would play Division III and Division IV. Out of this scenario each team would be playing 8 intra-division games and 10 out of division games.

I know this is still a long shot from happening and there are still a lot of dominoes that need to fall before this can happen, but I think this would be a cool idea for basketball in the Big East.

Re: Big East 20 basketball Conference

Big East Teams with no football schools should form a new conference.

    That eliminates 7 teams ?

They can make new Big 8 somewhere over there.

Re: Big East 20 basketball Conference

A few Big East teams are being targeted by the big 10 so that would make the conference just a little smaller

That MBB conference would be killer. We would have to change our goal every year from making the NCAA Tournament to making the Conference Tournament.

How would you do the conference tournament in basketball?

This would be awesome! It's like a miniature NCAA Tournament - ESPN would cover the entire thing.

plus the ACC and SEC might start grabbing Big East teams too if the Big 10 goes to 16. Lets hope they just stay at 12

Once again- terrible, woe-is-me, ***** attitude.

How bout, let's nut up and do what needs to be done to compete and dominate in this conference? I know Freddy and Co. will

The best way to be a loser is to start with a loser attitude.

And don't give me the "realistic" garbage. Our entire fanbase needs to change this ****** attitude and culture.

Re: Big East 20 basketball Conference

You have two 10 team divisions:
    Big East Basketball Conference
    Western Division
    Iowa St.
    Kansas
    Kansas St.
    Missouri
    Marquette
    Depaul
    Notre Dame
    Cincinnati
    Louisville
    Pittsburgh

    Eastern Division
    West Virginia
    Georgetown
    Villanova
    Rutgers
    Seton Hall
    Syracuse
    UConn
    Providence
    St. Johns
    South Florida
The conference tournament would consist of the top six teams from each division, seeded, and play a twelve team tourney similar to the old B12 tourney. Inter-divisional play would consist of three, or four games per season, so teams may schedule the remainder of non-conference schedule with teams at their desire starting with the usual cupcakes and allowing the possibility of participating in the various holiday tourneys held in North America. A team would cycle through the other division every three to four years. I figure this scheduling arrangement would allow the most flexibility -- 18 intra-divisional games plus four inter-divisional games equaling 22 total conference games, and have up to ten non-conference games remaining.

As I look at it, the western division would be the toughest division as it has most of the really good teams. although the eastern division would be no cupcake either.

    Thoughts?

Re: Big East 20 basketball Conference

You might actually end up at 16 if the four were added from the B12. I could see St. Johns, Providence, Seton Hall, and one other non-football school leaving. They know football is driving the bus and they are not happy. Georgetown will not leave because Tagliabue is an alum and works for the conference.

Just a note, they play everybody once now, and their "rival" school twice to end up with 16 games.
