    4 "superconferences" math

i was trying to not create my own thread as this may have been discussed already in the forty thousand threads in the last couple days but here goes.

apparently everyone wants 4 "superconferences" of 16 teams. there are currently 6 bcs conferences of varying sizes.

    ACC-12 member schools
    Big 12-12 member schools
Big East-8 member football schools/16 member bball schools
    Big 10-11 member schools
    Pac 10-10 member schools
    SEC-12 member schools

add that up and you get 65 schools for football and 73 for bball.

if there are to be 4 superconferences of 16 teams each, that is 64 total schools. would we seriously be 65 out of 64 and thus the 1 odd man out in all of this??? i can't help but think there are far worse programs than ours that would end up in this slot.

Have to consider TCU and Boise in the mix too even though they aren't now and are you including Notre Dame?

You have to think about schools like Utah or Boise State that might sneak in there. Notre Dame also isn't in there...

I think there would be a few current non BCS schools that would be included before us such as Boise, Utah, BYU, TCU, Notre Dame......

The "superconferences" won't be dropping members - they'll be adding. We are the ones looking for a home - those that have one will keep one.

I'm trying to be optimistic about the Big 12 only losing 2 schools, but it's awfully hard to do.

i get notre dame-didn't think of them with the OP yet they were included in the big east bball #.

boise has around 19000 students. they have a great thing going in football against lower tier competition and other than that are known for a blue field

byu has around 14000 students. they have a good football history but until last year none in bball.

tcu has 9000 students. again-great in football, not known for anything else.

utah-not sure on the #'s. recent football success, prior bball success.

ISU-26,000 enrollment. strong overall athletics department with decent bball history

    Re: 4 "superconferences" math

there may be worse off schools but they might already be in one of the conferences that might expand to 16. Those conferences are the Big 10, Pac 10, SEC, and ACC.
The Big 10 needs 5 more. Pac 10 needs 6 more. SEC needs 4 more. ACC needs 4 more. That's a total of 19 available spots with 20 football schools and 28 bball schools vying for those positions. Plus the teams like Notre Dame, TCU and so on.
Don't mean to be a downer but it is very possible that we are the worst pick up out of those 20 teams.

    Re: 4 "superconferences" math

If your going to speculate then might as well name these 4 "super conferences".

    The PAC-16 would include:
USC, ASU, AZ, Cal, UCLA, OU, OSU, WS, WSU, Stanford, CU, Oklahoma State, Boisie State, Utah, Colorado State, and UNLV.

I know there are a few week ones in here but I think it keeps some regional integrity.

Someone else can figure out the rest...

    Re: 4 "superconferences" math

What would be ideal is if all the Div1 presidents and AD's could all get together in one room with the ESPN, CBS, NBC, and Fox execs and hammer out a home for everyone that makes geographic sense, preserved traditional rivalries, maintained competitive balance and compensated schools fairly.

Ban media coverage of this event until it's all over, similar to basketball tourney selection committee. Would have to be better than the tweet and blog games going on now from our friends in Texas.

For some reason I like this idea...

We may be better than those three but you have too add in regional mid-majors and independents like Notre Dame. Also Rutgers and USF have a locational advantage with the ACC, SEC and Big 10 looking for teams on the East coast.
