No Moss? Fuming Favre wants trade?

    SI.com link

    Truth&Rumors link

The Green Bay Packers left Brett Favre fuming when they didn't pull off a trade for wide receiver Randy Moss during the NFL draft. But was the three-time MVP angry enough to ask his way out of Green Bay? Amid public grousing from Favre about the state of his team over the weekend, a report on the Fox Sports Web site, citing anonymous sources, said Favre's agent called Packers general manager Ted Thompson to request a trade a few days after last month's draft.

I read that this weekend. The thought of it made my heart sink. I really don't want to see him play for anyone but the packers before he retires.

Re: No Moss? Fuming Favre wants trade?

Interesting that Favre thinks Moss is the Packers' (or any team's) savior and that he should be making personnel decisions. He is a good quarterback (was a very good quarterback), but ending the co-dependent relationship he has with Green Bay might be best for all parties.

Yeah well, ya know, that's just, like uh, your opinion, man.

I about fell off my couch when I read it on the ticker last night. I am sick of the Packer front office. They have been horrible since Mike Holmgren left. They constantly make bad moves and don't get any impact guys. NO big fee agents. It's like there satisfied with mediocre now.

Re: No Moss? Fuming Favre wants trade?

Favre is the QB of the Packers. Not coach....not GM and certainly not owner. Maybe he'll fill one of those roles someday - but not today. I love the man but at sometimes I wish he'd just play - even though I can see where he's coming from.

If I'm a Packer fan and I read things like this...I'm glad Moss isn't on my team...

Former Raiders offensive coordinator Tom Walsh described a play in a loss to the Browns in which a play-action pass was called and Randy Moss was asked to run a square-in on the weak side. The linebacker was sucked up inside by the fake, according to Walsh, and Moss was expected to run the in-route. As Walsh recalled it, "He runs a 9 [deep go] route. "Andrew Walter makes the play-fake and a huge hole opens up for Randy in the middle of the field but he's running down the sideline. When Randy gets to the sidelines, [wide receivers coach] Freddie Biletnikoff says, 'What were you doing?' "Randy told Fred, 'I didn't feel like running the 6 route on the dirt part of the infield.' That's the Randy I coached. There were some games where out of 28 plays he'd have 13 or 14 busts. Wrong routes, wrong reads. Dogging it. Whatever."

I don't blame Brett at all for being PO'd. It's time to send GM Ted Thompson packing. He must be getting kickbacks from "Da Bears".

I agree with you in theory... but as a Packer fan they didn't have anything to lose in bringing him in. I haven't read it anywhere, but it has been said that Randy would have come to the Pack for less than what he went to NE for which was nothing. He asked to play with Brett and for the Packers, I think it would have been worth the shot to see if he could kick those habits. If he didn't, bench him and they are at the same place as they are today.

I couldn't disagree more. No possible way. As "terrible" as Rex was this year, here are both of their stats:

    Favre: 3,885 yards, 18TD, 18 INT, 72.7 rating
    Grossman: 3,193 yards, 23 TD, 20 INT, 73.9 rating

You never heard how "bad" Favre was...

There isn't much difference in those stats. One player is on the young and rising, the other is old and fading.

That decision is way too easy IMO.

You are wrong my friend. Stick Favre with the Bears O-Line and not with 4 starting rookies... do you think his stats would improve???

How about the receivers too? You think the Packer's receiving corps is good?

LMAO! Wanting Grossman over Favre is quite amusing.

I can see it perhaps looking down the road. But if I need a QB to win one game - easily I take Favre. Heck...I'd take him in a 16 game stretch over Rex.

Nice stats though - they don't show the difference of caliber in players surrounding Rex vs. those surrounding Brett.

Packer's fans are funny. When is comes to Favre they have some serious rose colored glasses on. I will admit (altough it pains me) that Favre was an amazing talent, a Hall of Famer. But facts are facts, the guy is on his way out. He should have retired 2 years ago. The fact that he is playing this trade game now is just blows me away. So what if he has Moss? All that means is he is throwing picks a little further down the field. And for that matter, who would want him? The only teams that would want him would be the bottom of the barrel teams who wanted to get on Sunday night football more. If I have to listen to Madden's man-love for Favre one more time I will vomit.

You're right...Grossman was throwing to some great receivers...Bernard Berrian (who had even heard of him before the year?), Muhamed is solid, Mark Bradley, and Rashied Davis.

Sorry, but I would take a 26 year old QB instead of a 40 year old QB any day of the week. Not to mention, a 26 year old QB who got his team to the Super Bowl last year.

Re: No Moss? Fuming Favre wants trade?

I think Favre came back because he was confident that management was going to give him some tools to succeed. Maybe an offensive line and some recievers? Perhaps a competant running game? I thought it was obvious in the draft and the moss deal falling through that what Favre was lead to believe and what the packers management did were two different things.

He doesn't want to stick around and get beat up and lose games. He's a competitor. I just feel the management talked him into staying because they know Rodgers isn't ready to take the reigns yet. It's a dispicable way to treat a man who's given you everything his entire career.

edit: I have no proof that he was lied to. It's just a hunch I have.
