    Ames Car Wash

Are there any good places in Ames where you can do the good old fashioned manual car wash, inserting coins and hosing your vehicle down yourself?

There should be a set of wash bays right up by the Hy-Vee on the west side of Ames on Lincoln Way. I always used those when I was up there.

    Re: Ames Car Wash

There is a car wash just north of Lincoln Way off of Clark. It is right next to the RR tracks. coin op bays and a drive through as well. Also one on the corner of Crystal and Opal in South Ames one block off of Duff

    Re: Ames Car Wash

Conversely, are there any good automated car washes in Ames? I logged 400+ highway miles this weekend, and about twice as many bugs... The only one I know of is the weird tunnel one at the South Duff Jiffy-Lube, but it's too expensive if you haven't had an oil change done or something.

Never could figure out why some people pay good money to manually wash their car...

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

there are a couple automated ones on the west side of ames, one at the kum and go at lincoln way and dakota, and also at the kum and go at dakota and moretensen. I'm not positive, but I think the gas station on elwood just south of highway 30 has one as well.

Are there any good car washes where women in bikinis wash your car for you, pressing their chests against the driver side window as they scrub off the dirt....and then proceed to wash each other while giggling and.....hmmm...

    Re: Ames Car Wash

I prefer the good old manual washes too. Cost less and I think your car gets cleaner since you can concentrate more where the dirt and bugs are. Plus you can wash out the wheel wells better too with the wand. Only drawback is you either have to towel or air dry it and a lot of the new automated ones have the blowers before you exit.

I do too usually but if you don't get out on the highway soon enough it spots up a little. I don't mind right now because I have a silver car that doesn't show dirt much but I'll be switching to a black car here next month and I'm sure I'll probably notice it more.
