Here's your new Big 12 wielding Automatic Qualifier status for the BCS

    Great Plains Division
    Missouri
    Iowa State
    Louisville
    Cincinnati
    Kansas
    Kansas State
    Baylor

    Mountain West Division
    Utah
    BYU
    TCU
    Boise State
    Houston
    Colorado State
    Air Force

That alignment hits a ton of major metropolitan areas for TV sets, maintains contact with our key recruiting grounds in Texas, and would be easily a top 4/5 conference in football and even better in basketball. Call it the Big 14 with its new headquarters in....say...Denver.

I actually really like that. If we can draw teams into a "new" big 12 then we keep the money from the teams buying out.

I really like this conference. One suggestion would be to swap CSU for UNLV. What midwest fan wouldn't mine a trip out there every few years to see ISU play?

We keep the money. Keep the BCS AQ. Keep the prestige of the name. Keep most of our recruiting links. Perhaps take the Mountain West TV network and bring into this new coalition.

And I like our chances competitively. A lot of VERY good football programs but no Texas/Ohio State/USC unbeatable types.

I think it's likely Baylor's leaving with the B12 South teams, leaving Colorado instead of BU. Send Houston to (just call it the) Midwest division and I like it much better.

AF has to play a lot of other national schools and may be impacted.

If you go 14, why not go 16 as now is the time to bomb away to build teams for the TV contract.

IT IS REALLY ABOUT NETWORK DOLLARS AFTER ALL so that the coaches can be paid more.

Re: Here's your new Big 12 wielding Automatic Qualifier status for the BCS

Why do people continue to assume that the BCS is going to exist with the advent of the four superconferences, or, at the very least, that the new conference would be invited to the party? The whole point of the superconferences is to keep all the money for themselves.

Re: Here's your new Big 12 wielding Automatic Qualifier status for the BCS

While there are some major media markets located in the footprint of this new Big 14 conference, would the cable companies there be able to get a Big 14 Network added to the basic package for its viewers? That's really what matters when discussing TV revenue, it has nothing to do with ratings or anything like that.

Bottom line is will the people of Denver want to pay more on their cable bill to see Air Force and CSU, Dallas/Ft Worth and TCU/Baylor, Houston and UH?

That's the thing that nobody wants to get in this - it's not enough to be present in the major media markets - there have to be enough people in those major media markets to care. You might be able to work out some kind of viable TV deal, but it would never compare with what those in the superconferences are going to get.

The network is in place - The Mtn, you would just have to get the cable companies to add it to their packages where you mentioned. I watch it on the dish every once in a while. It is not as good at the B10 Network, but if you upgraded the conference, you could upgrade the network.

Word this morning is that Colorado HAS an official invite to the Pac 10...so Baylor seems a more likely choice to stay with us in the Big 12, which is fine as we need Texas connections. As for the Denver question, having lived on the front range for many years, I'd say there's a ton of interest in Denver for CSU and Air Force football...especially if they elevate to BCS conference status in the Big 12.

If it were to go to 16 rather than 14 I think it would look like this:

    Great Plains Division
    Missouri
    Iowa State
    Louisville
    Cincinnati
    Kansas
    Kansas State
    Baylor
Pittsburgh (if the Big East does break up)

    Mountain West Division
    Utah
    BYU
    TCU
    Boise State
    Houston
    Colorado State
    Air Force
    San Diego State

It's not a matter of having a network or even upgrading an existing network, the issue is getting that network/channel onto the basic cable package in that city. There aren't enough satellite or premium cable subscribers to make the big bucks that the Big 10 and SEC enjoy. I have a hard time seeing the residents of Dallas/Ft Worth pay extra just for the convience of watching Baylor or TCU, both of whom have pretty terrible fan following as is (based on attendance).
