That will sting a little bit, but even with 20 fewer scholarships I imagine they will be fielding a good team still.

They might "field" a good team, but I wouldn't put my stock in Kiffin being able to coach them to victory.

Finally a little justice for a more prominent school.

Re: USC banned from bowls for 2 yrs; to lose 20 scholies

I agree with the sentiments that this should have been done YEARS ago, not now when USC is far from being the juggernaut in athletics. I loved what Bob Knight said about it on Mike and Mike:

"If the guys that were in charge of this investigation were the same people that were planning Normandy, our troops would have ended up in Portugal."

Basically, the NCAA is vacating USC's wins, but they can't take away their 2004 BCS national championship. They can declare Reggie Bush ineligible, but they can't take away his Heisman. They can put all the sanctions they want on USC now, but it doesn't hurt those that are guilty - namely Pete Carroll, Reggie Bush, and McKnight (?), and it's a few years too late as you're not getting to USC until well after their prominence has faded.

While it makes us all feel good that we're sticking it to USC, when it's all said and done it's a day late and a dollar short. If the NCAA were at all interested in making an example of USC, they would impose the Death Penalty. I'm not sure there's been a program that has deserved it more since SMU received it. Instead, the NCAA goes on to prove it's really nothing more than a toothless organization.

This will just catapult Texas as the King of the New PAC10, which is what they want anyway.

Yeah, and that punishment will really hurt. I must admit, I am surprised. I expected this would all end up under the rug. I am happy to see the NCAA took stern action. It is long overdue in this case. The bad part is Pete Carroll gets off scott free.

Bobby Knight as a reporter is grotesque. If the guys who finally got Knight fired from Indiana were the same guys who planned D-Day, we would be attacking Normandy next June........and then, later, we would give the Germans Austalia and South America as reparations. I just wish time travel were possible. Wouldn't it be great to watch Bob Knight try to interview himself?

Great point. Miller and Deace (I know, I know) also read a "tweet" (I hate this. I really ******* hate this) this morning stating current USC Juniors and Seniors will be given the opportunity to transfer immediately (meaning, not have to sit out a year).

Of the Juniors and Seniors remaining on the team...the entire starting LB'ing core, 3 of 4 starting DB's, starting NT, and this is just what I heard. Miller rambled off what seemed like 15 returning starters.

If this is true, the 20 scholarships and 2 year bowl ban could end up being a sort of "death penalty" for the Trojans.

The Pac 10 doesn't look nearly as daunting for Texas anymore, especially if the P 10 goes to 16 teams and only have to play one coastal team in the "conference championship game".

Will they have to play in a lot of Rose Bowls now to keep the PAC16 happy?

I agree completely. I'm glad to see this is being done, but it should have been done years ago. This hurts players that had no part in this; it is unfair to them. I don't feel bad for USC, but I feel bad for the innocent players. Maybe some of them will transfer and make their program even worse.

I just have a feeling that the loss of scholarship will be spread over 20 years, meaning: 1 scholly for every years
