Why Can't the Big 12 get a Similar TV Deal?

I don't understand why the big 12 couldn't get about $20 million per team TV deal? Even if they split it the way they do now, ISU might get $15 mil and Texas/Nebraska would maybe get $25 mil. Are they really that far behind the Big 10 or Pac 10 in the TV sets area? With the entire state of Texas, St. Loius/KC, Denver and the national prestige of Nebraska/Oklahoma? Add in a Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, or the crazy mormons, Why couldn't the money be there? Maybe the gap is bigger than I think.

As I understand it, Texas wanted their own television network and did not want to participate in a Big 12 Network.

If they were allowed their own network I would assume all schools would be allowed the same thing. Which would be a way to get more ISU games on television.

Just using rough numbers and taking the populations of the states in each conference (it's not a perfect method, but is should give a good indication), the Big Ten population is about 68 (6.2 per school) million and the Big 12 is about 48 (4 per school) million. This is about 55% more per school.

I'm just counting the current makeup of each conference so I'm not including Utah or Nevada and I am counting Nebraska in the Big 12. Also, I'm counting Iowa in both.

EDIT: - Also, just to add, I think the Big 12 TV deal could get better (if it stays together, of course) and close the gap somewhat, but it wouldn't be able to match the Big Ten.

Apparently something was in the works. NU needs to be part of the Big 12 though...
