To all of the Soccer Haters

With the World Cup 2 days away I hope I don't hear any "Soccer is Boring" talk. Do you realize there is only 11 minutes of action in an NFL game! You sit for 3.5 hours to see 11 mins of action. There is actually 56% more time spent on replays than live action. Don't belive me read here Football Games Have 11 Minutes of Action - WSJ.com

I'm guessing the American population would rather have 11 minutes of action, against 90 minutes of glorified placekickers kicking a ball around

Do you realize no matter how hard you or ESPN tries we still wont care about soccer.

Thanks for the laugh. Our conference falls apart today and you think we're aware of soccer.

But that is an action packed 11 minutes. That is part of what makes football great, it is the anticipation of the next play and what could happen. Think about how crazy you get when ISU is on D and the other team has a 3rd and 3. There isn't any action going on before the play but the place is crazy with the anticipation of what could happen.

To me what makes it so much better to watch is anything can happen at anytime from anywhere on the field. I don't watch any soccer but I don't think the same can be said for soccer.

I played soccer in high school. I'm one of those guys who find it fun to play but can't sit on the couch and watch a full game.

I love soccer but I don't expect anyone else to like it nor will I call them out randomly for no reason. Wierd.

Re: To all of the Soccer Haters

Here's my impression of someone calling a soccer game.

"And we've got a barn-burner here 40 minutes in with a score of 2-1! Team A has the ball, passes to the wing and OH! The ball missed his teammate. Team B has the ball and is running down the field. Running. Running. Still running because the field is too incredibly long. He passes the ball and WOW! The ball went out of bounds! Team A gets the ball, he's wide open for a shot...oh the ball goes between his legs! He falls down and is now acting like someone pushed him and hurt him despite the fact that there was no one within ten feet of him. We're going to take a quick 20 minute break. We'll be back shortly with the exciting conclusion of the game, and then maybe the losing team will riot and try to kill their own goalie."

Re: To all of the Soccer Haters

Was at the Chicago Fire Colorado Rapids game tonight (the black hawks winning made it better too) but it ended in a 2-2 tie, Colorado tied it up in the 87th minute...jerks. That being said I played for 13 years, was a ref for a few and I plan to start coaching but most of America could care less due to the lack of scoring and the fact that it can end in a tie... not enough constant action.

As opposed to 20 seconds of action in a soccer game? The rest of the time is spent kicking the ball back and forth at mid field or rolling around on the ground pretending to be hurt. I don't consider it action unless there's at least a remote posibility of there being a score. I can't wait to watch all the nill-nill games.

Although I really don't have anything against soccer. It's good to have a sport for the kids who can't throw or dribble.
