    what about building a television centric conference

    We let the losers who want to go leave and we (Isu Ksu Ku Colo? and Mizzu?) add team from major population states cin, louis, memphis, cfu, sfu, houston, tcu, byu, utah, nmst, fresno and we have all time zones and all major southern tv markets.

    The difference is that we will not divide the nation vertically which has been done, but horizontally. It would not be much if any farther for Isu to trave to say orlando than it is for Iowa to travel to syracuse. But we would be in the emerging markets.

    Population and money wise the south is growing much faster than the old northeast and it would be much easier to get ISU fans to travel to fresno, san diego, orlando or wherever for a trip than to college station in october or november.
    TV is where the money is and I think the best idea if left behind is to build a major market 16 team conference with no more than 2 teams per state to avoid our current cluster f%#$.

    We could end up being a winner in this scenerio as we are in a conference building new superpowers and of the teams we are amoung the most established. Where they are now these teams have small budgets, but added together the tv revenue could be huge (if someone smarter than beebe is in charge) and revenue is all all of these schools need themselves to become "elite"

    People seem to have picked up some wrong ideas with all the talk about the Big 10 bringing in "tv sets". You can add teams from all the major markets in the world, but people have to want to watch those teams to get any kind of revenue from a tv deal. Almost none of those teams bring anything to the table that would sell the advertising time that would make us attractive to a major network.

    Disagree. If the average one of these schools has half of what ISU has in terms of alumni or fan base, that is a large enough noise to get the distibuters to carry it.

    If you have never watched the little 11 net, most of the commercials are for either the little eleven or the net itself. and with the current atmosphere of broadcast television, all you need is to either partner with a direct tv or a dish or ensure you are carried on one of those or in the major markets a smaller distribuuter.

    If you can get on one carrier, you will get on them all as you need only to convince the fans. and lets be serious 50 thousand customers in cincinati switching from cable to direct citing the reason as wanting to watch thier team would be enough

    Getting on DirecTV is easy. Look at the MWC station. It's almost public access and they make minimal money off of it. To make money off of it, you need myriad sponsorship deals, which the Big 10 DOES have. Every show on there is sponsored by a major company and there are a ton of major commercials. Companies pay for that because of the huge number of people watching Big 10 sports. That's the only way to bring in revenue with a tv deal like that. You don't just start raking in money because you're on tv.

    I never said it would be as big as the little to start but you have to remember the reason for this whole push to aquire... the rust belt is dying. michigan, penn, somewhat ohio, even chicago expect to see large drops in population with the results of the new census.

    This is a proactive solution that does not include acne. you take a few not established teams in small markets and add them with established teams this creates instant credability with the alumni base. How many UNI fans woudl suddenly actually be uni fans instead of closet hawks if they suddenly were in the big ten. heck look at them during the tourney this year.

    The elevation of a team like Houston adds pride to thier alumni, and support. Now our team is competeing with TX, I support our team. you need look no further than the gloom and doom projection from ISu fans on this very board if we are lowered to Cusa. A large amount of people say they would quit following, quit supporting, well I say that works both ways.

    Re: big sponsors

    ISU, KU, KSU =ag plus kansas city
    Fla (orlando and or miami) = tourism
    Ohio = i really don't know except they have people
    Houston = BP (they owe everyone)
    TCU OR SMU = religion
    Utah = morman (Gurantee if we have BYU they would be a big supporter)
    any socal team = travel and ag
    memphis = fed ex
    louisville = whatever they have

    There may not be GM (which in addittion to supporting the Little 11 in our cable bills we support in ad sales because of them) but there is a lot of stuff going on in these states and we need to work it. Like I said, someone stronger than Beebe (me) needs to be in charge, but this conference long run could be better.
    read that hlas article if you need another reason why
