    Athletic department expenses

If the Big 12 does fall apart (and it looks like it most certainly will, at this point), we'll find ourselves in a new conference of some sort. One thing that concerns me most is the effect on athletic department expenses, especially travel costs and such. I can't think of any scenario where our travel costs don't potentially skyrocket. One rumor has us being picked up by the SEC, for example. I can't imagine the costs of our teams traveling to games in Florida, South Carolina, etc. The MWC would be just as bad, with games in California, Utah, or New Mexico.

Our athletic department has to pinch pennies the way it is, with most of our games right next door compared to where we'd be traveling in any new conference that I can imagine.

    This is bad, really bad.

Just wait until our revenue falls and we can't pay off the bonds that were used to fund JTS renovation.

    Re: Athletic department expenses

Well if we get (by some prayer) into the SEC, we then become part of their TV package, which is better than most anything we ever got from the Big XII, so we might equal out with increased revenues and increased travel expenses.

MWC would kill us, might cost us so much that we *could* lose wrestling from lack of funding...

Dude, the SEC revenue would cover it... Won't happen either.

Our chances at the Big 10 are 10x higher than our chances at the SEC.

In a day full of rumors, Iowa State to the SEC is essentially the most ******** thing I've ever read, anywhere.

Getting picked up by the Big 10-ish is more likely than a SEC scenario. That would be sorta fun though...play Auburn? Maybe beat them semi-regularly so that way we can harass chizik.

I was just mentioning it because the OP had it in their post. I could not agree more, but I was just staying with what was said.

From the start, I've maintained ISU to the Big Ten and am gonna stick to my guns until we see otherwise.

If we end up MWC, you can guarantee we lose any coach that has had success here. Fennelly, Johnson-Lynch, Pollard, etc. will all be gone. I wouldn't be totally shocked if we lost administrators at the University. There will be schools that will be calling should we fall.

    Re: Athletic department expenses

It's really unfortunate that there hasn't been more of a movement toward football only conferences and then conferences for all of the other sports. (I'm thinking like the high school football districts and then other sport conferences) I don't think all of this restructuring is being done with the best interest of the other sports in mind. I don't think that was even true when the original 12 team conferences were formed.

Fennelly not going anywhere and Christy will only go to one other school - Nebraska. Why don't you just scream "The sky is falling, the sky is falling." I can tell you from a womens bball perspective, there are some good team in the MWC. New Mexico, SDSU, TCU, BYU and Utah are all good teams.
